Ep 121: Jenifer Faison: Betrayal, Success, Setbacks & Starting Over
I have wanted to have this conversation with Jenifer Faison for YEARS. Watch this Ep on Youtube I first found Jenifer after watching her story on Hulu’s Betrayal: The Perfect Husband, and immediately reached out to her because so much of her story hit home for me. Jenifer had reconnected with her college sweetheart after 20 years, moved across the country, married him and thought she was living her fairy tale. Then one day she came home to find police waiting to arrest her husband for the sexual assault of a student. What followed was the discovery that he had been living an entire double life, including relationships with dozens of other women. We have a very real conversation about what betrayal like that does to you. How it makes you question everything you thought was real, your judgment, your confidence and even yourself. We talk about the shame that can come with being the person who was betrayed, why there aren't always red flags to see, and how incredibly healing it can be to finally realize, I am not the only person who has been through this. Jenifer is an Emmy Award-winning television producer whose career has included Judge Judy, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Instant Dream Home and Vanderpump Villa . She also created the hit Betrayal podcast and shared her own story publicly in hopes that another woman going through something similar might hear it and know she can get through it too. Follow her on Instagram And I loved where this conversation went beyond her story because we also got really honest about success, career setbacks, starting over, creating when you don't know what's coming next, and the weird reality that you can accomplish huge things and still have seasons where you're thinking, what the hell am I doing? We both know what it's like to have those earthquake moments where everything around you seems to shatter. Sometimes what grows out of that mess becomes the thing you never could have planned. Jenifer said something toward the end of our conversation that I think sums it up perfectly: we are so much stronger than we could possibly know. Sometimes you really do just have to get up, start again and see what happens next.
