For the Joy of It: What If Having More Fun Is the Missing Piece?
What if you don't need another supplement, productivity hack, morning routine, or strategy? What if you just need more joy? In this episode, I share a thought that came to me after watching an older cyclist gleefully jump his road bike over a tiny puddle during my morning run. I laughed and immediately thought: If you're going to do it anyway, you might as well have fun. And that got me thinking about something bigger. What would happen if we intentionally added more joy to the things we're already doing? Our work. Motherhood. Laundry. Exercise. Building businesses. Even dealing with the ridiculous amount of dog hair rolling across the living room. We spend so much time trying to optimize our lives—and so much time postponing fun until we've accomplished enough, earned enough, or eventually retired. But why? This episode is an invitation to stop treating joy like a reward you earn later and start making it part of how you live now. Because if you're going to do the thing anyway... Why not make it fun? Episode Breakdown (12+ minutes) 00:00 – 01:51 — The cyclist, the puddle, and the reminder to have more fun 01:51 – 03:37 — What if joy is something we're overlooking? 03:37 – 05:54 — What a really good laugh can teach us about how we experience life 05:54 – 07:33 — Making even mundane tasks—like laundry—more enjoyable 07:33 – 09:14 — Pomsky hairballs, frustration, and learning to flip the script 09:14 – 10:54 — Why waiting until retirement to enjoy your life has never made sense to me 10:54 – 12:12 — Creating time freedom AND money freedom instead of choosing between them 12:12 – 12:23 — Start with one question: What would I be doing if I had more fun? Key Takeaways Joy doesn't have to be earned after the work is finished. Even mundane tasks can become more enjoyable when you intentionally change how you approach them. Sometimes a perspective shift is enough to completely change your energy. Motherhood, work, and entrepreneurship don't have to be things you endure. Time freedom and money freedom don't have to be mutually exclusive. Stop waiting for retirement, success, or "someday" to enjoy your life. If you're going to do it anyway, make it fun.
