The Municipal Voice - Education Funding
On this episode of the Municipal Voice we are returning to the Connecticut Citizens’ Assembly on Property Taxes, as they convene for their second in-person weekend. The Assembly has decided how to govern itself, and this weekend they are focused on learning from experts about the issues surrounding the property tax in Connecticut. We are sharing one of many seminars that took place that day, a panel discussion on education funding, featuring New Haven teachers union President Leslie Blatteau, New Canaan Public Schools Supt. Bryan Luizzi, Norwalk Public Schools Chief Financial Officer Lunda Asmani, and Yale School of Medicine professor and Child W ellbeing and Education Research director Michael Strambler.

Anything But Plain
The town in popular imagination is quaint, quiet, full of rows of white picket fences and rose bushes. The town that CCM knows is anything but. It is a million moving parts, it is finance and IT, tax collectors and economic development. And as many of you know, the captain that steers that ship in a few dozen of Connecticut’s towns is the town manager. Joining us today is Michael Paulhus to talk about innovative ideas that he is undertaking in Plainville that are anything but plain.

For the common good
Across the state, non-profit organizations work tirelessly to improve the lives of Connecticut residents. Today we will be hearing from two of those organizations. Lisa Hammersley of the Connecticut School + State Finance Project is here to discuss education funding and how to fix it. But first we are going to talk with Elizabeth Kaesar from the Connecticut River Museum about their upcoming Environmental Summit, held in conjunction with Wesleyan University.
