When Hope Feels Far Away | Finding God in the Middle of Despair | Elijah’s Story

Send us Fan Mail In Episode 16 of Gospel Unfiltered , host Cornell Bunting delivers a powerful solo message on one of the most difficult subjects people face: despair . Using the story of Elijah in 1 Kings 18–19 , Cornell explores what happens when someone who has experienced tremendous victory suddenly reaches a place of exhaustion, discouragement, isolation, and hopelessness. Elijah had just witnessed one of the greatest spiritual victories in Scripture on Mount Carmel. Yet shortly afterward, he was running for his life, sitting beneath a tree, and telling God: “It is enough.” This episode looks honestly at the reality that strong people can become tired, faithful people can become discouraged, and people who encourage everyone else can still need encouragement themselves. Cornell discusses what Elijah’s story teaches us about: Recognizing despair Emotional and spiritual exhaustion The danger of isolation Rest and physical renewal Asking for help Honest prayer The importance of community How despair can distort perspective Why strong leaders still need support Finding hope when the future feels uncertain The episode also draws from Psalm 42, Psalm 34, Lamentations 3, Matthew 26, and 2 Corinthians 4 to remind listeners that Scripture does not hide human pain. Faith does not require pretending everything is okay. Sometimes faith looks like admitting: “I am tired.” Sometimes it looks like resting. Sometimes it looks like calling someone. Sometimes it looks like asking for help. And sometimes it means remembering that one painful chapter does not get to write the ending of your entire story. One of the central messages of this episode is: Do not make a permanent decision from a temporary place of exhaustion. Elijah’s story reminds us that God did not define him by his lowest moment. God met him there, restored him, spoke to him, gave him direction, and reminded him that his story was not over. If you are tired, discouraged, overwhelmed, grieving, or struggling to see hope ahead, this episode is for you. Hannah: Praying Through the Pain | Faith, Waiting & Surrender | Apostle Vern L. Lias

Send us Fan Mail In Episode 15 of Gospel Unfiltered , host Cornell Bunting sits down with Apostle Vern L. Lias for a powerful conversation centered on the story of Hannah in 1 Samuel . Hannah’s journey is one of pain, persistent prayer, waiting, misunderstanding, faith, and surrender. She longed for a child, endured provocation from Peninnah, carried deep emotional pain, and still chose to bring her heart honestly before God. One of the central Scriptures in this episode is 1 Samuel 1:15 : “I… have poured out my soul before the Lord.” That verse captures the heart of this conversation. Cornell and Apostle Vern explore what it means to keep praying when the answer has not yet come, how to remain faithful when someone else appears to have what you are still waiting for, and why peace can sometimes arrive before the circumstances change. They also discuss Hannah being misunderstood by Eli, the importance of emotional honesty in prayer, the difference between surrender and giving up, and what happens when an answered prayer carries a purpose greater than the person who prayed it. Hannah prayed for a son. God was preparing Samuel — a prophet who would help shape a nation . This episode is for anyone who has ever prayed through pain, waited longer than expected, felt misunderstood, struggled with comparison, or wondered whether God still hears them. Sometimes faith is not pretending everything is okay. Sometimes faith is pouring out your soul before God and trusting Him with what happens next. Guest: Apostle Vern L. Gideon: From Fear to Faith | Identity, Courage & Trusting God With the Battle | Greg Jackson

Send us Fan Mail In Episode 14 of Gospel Unfiltered , host Cornell Bunting sits down with Greg Jackson , author of Inner City Missions , evangelist, and servant with City Takers SWFL , for a powerful conversation centered on the story of Gideon in the Book of Judges . Gideon’s journey is one of fear, insecurity, obedience, courage, leadership, and learning to trust God when the odds do not make sense. When we first meet Gideon, he is hiding. He questions God, doubts himself, and struggles to understand why he has been chosen. Yet God calls him a “mighty man of valour” before Gideon can even see that strength in himself. Together, Cornell and Greg explore what Gideon’s story teaches us about identity, fear, calling, private obedience, spiritual courage, and the danger of allowing our circumstances to define us. The conversation also examines one of the most powerful moments in Gideon’s story: God reducing his army from thousands of men down to just 300. Why would God remove resources before a battle? Because sometimes reduction is not rejection. Sometimes God removes what we are relying on so we can learn to trust Him more deeply. This episode also connects Gideon’s story to real-life ministry, evangelism, inner-city missions, mentorship, leadership, and serving people in communities where fear, hopelessness, poverty, and limited opportunity can become part of everyday life. A key Scripture for the episode is Judges 6:12 : “The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.” This conversation is for anyone who has ever felt unqualified, overlooked, afraid to step forward, or unsure why God would choose them. Your fear does not automatically cancel your calling. Your limitations do not automatically disqualify you. And sometimes the battle in front of you is not designed to prove how strong you are—but to reveal where your strength truly comes from. Beyond the Pulpit: Honest Conversations. Real Stories. Where Have the Prophets Gone? | The Five Major Prophets of the Old Testament | Apostle Dr. William L. Glover

Send us Fan Mail In Episode 13 of Gospel Unfiltered , host Cornell Bunting sits down with Apostle Dr. William L. Glover for a powerful and thought-provoking conversation titled: Where Have the Prophets Gone? Together, they explore the five books traditionally known as the Major Prophets of the Old Testament : Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, and Daniel. This episode looks beyond prediction and asks deeper questions about what biblical prophecy really meant. Why did God send prophets? Why were they often rejected? What happens when leaders and communities refuse correction? And what can believers today learn from prophetic voices that were willing to speak truth even when it was unpopular? The conversation explores: Isaiah and the call to holiness, surrender, hope, and the coming Messiah Jeremiah and the cost of faithfulness when no one wants to hear the message Lamentations and how faith makes room for grief, loss, and hope Ezekiel and the responsibility of the watchman, personal accountability, and the Valley of Dry Bones Daniel and what it means to remain faithful, courageous, and uncompromising in a culture that pressures believers to conform Cornell and Apostle Glover also discuss modern prophetic ministry, discernment, accountability, spiritual manipulation, fearmongering, integrity, and the danger of allowing popularity to become more important than truth. At the heart of the episode is an important question: Have the prophets disappeared—or have we simply stopped wanting to hear the kind of truth the prophets were called to speak? This conversation is for pastors, ministry leaders, Bible students, and anyone who wants to better understand prophecy, biblical leadership, discernment, and the responsibility believers have to remain grounded in Scripture. From Deliverance to Devotion — Mary Magdalene, a Life Transformed by Jesus. Feat Karen Spears

Send us Fan Mail In Episode 12 of Gospel Unfiltered , host Cornell Bunting sits down with Karen Spears for a powerful conversation centered on the life of Mary Magdalene and the transformation that took place after she encountered Jesus. Mary Magdalene’s story is one of deliverance, devotion, grief, faithfulness, courage, and purpose. Scripture tells us that Jesus delivered her from seven demons, and from that point forward, she became a devoted follower who supported His ministry, remained near the cross, witnessed His burial, returned to the tomb, and became one of the first witnesses of the risen Christ. This episode explores what it means to be transformed by Jesus and refuse to be defined by your past. Cornell and Karen discuss how people can move from pain to purpose, how false labels can affect identity, why women played such an important role in Jesus’ ministry, and what Mary Magdalene teaches us about staying faithful even in seasons of grief and uncertainty. The conversation also focuses on one of the most powerful moments in the resurrection story. In John 20:16 , Jesus simply says: “Mary.” In that moment, she recognizes Him. That encounter reminds us that God knows us personally, calls us by name, and can meet us even in the middle of grief, confusion, and disappointment. This episode is for anyone who has ever felt misunderstood, rejected, broken, overlooked, defined by their past, or uncertain about what comes next. Mary Magdalene’s life reminds us that your story is not only about what Jesus brought you out of. It is also about what He is calling you into. A Man After God’s Own Heart — David, Courage, Failure, Repentance, and Purpose. Feat Kevin VanDuser Sr.

Send us Fan Mail In Episode 11 of Gospel Unfiltered , host Cornell Bunting sits down with Kevin VanDuser Sr. for a powerful conversation centered on the life of David , one of the most complex and compelling figures in Scripture. David was a shepherd, musician, warrior, fugitive, king, father, worshiper, and leader. He experienced extraordinary victories, painful failures, deep grief, and moments of sincere repentance. Yet Scripture still remembers him as a man after God’s own heart . In this episode, Cornell and Kevin explore what that really means. The conversation follows David’s journey from the shepherd’s field to the battlefield, from facing Goliath to leading a nation, and from public success to private failure. Together, they discuss courage, preparation, leadership, friendship, fatherhood, accountability, temptation, repentance, emotional honesty, and the importance of returning to God after falling short. This episode also explores how David’s hidden seasons prepared him for public responsibility, why he refused to wear Saul’s armor, what his friendship with Jonathan teaches us about relationships and accountability, and what his failures teach leaders about humility and character. A major focus of the conversation is Psalm 51:10 : “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” David’s story reminds us that being after God’s own heart does not mean living a perfect life. It means having a heart that remains open to correction, willing to repent, and determined to return to God. This episode is for anyone who has ever faced a giant, struggled with leadership, made a serious mistake, experienced regret, or wondered whether God can still use them after failure. For Such a Time as This (Esther, Courage, Purpose) Feat Dee Dee Smith

Send us Fan Mail In Episode 10 of Gospel Unfiltered , host Cornell Bunting sits down with Dee Dee Smith for a powerful conversation centered on the biblical story of Esther and what it teaches us about courage, identity, preparation, influence, and purpose. Esther’s story is more than the story of a woman who became queen. It is the story of someone who was positioned in a place of influence before she fully understood why she was there. Together, Cornell and Dee Dee explore Esther’s journey from loss and hidden identity to courage, advocacy, and action. The conversation examines what it means to recognize when God has prepared you for a specific moment and how faith, wisdom, prayer, timing, and courage all work together when purpose requires something from us. This episode also explores: How adversity can shape strength and resilience The difference between favor and responsibility Why timing matters in difficult conversations How courage can exist even when fear is present The importance of prayer and spiritual preparation What it means to use influence to help others Why silence can sometimes become a decision How personal testimony can become a tool for advocacy The responsibility leaders have to speak for those without access What it means to be positioned “for such a time as this” At the heart of the episode is Esther 4:14 : “And who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” This conversation is for anyone who feels overlooked, uncertain about their purpose, afraid to step forward, or positioned somewhere they do not yet understand. Sometimes purpose is not revealed when the door first opens. Sometimes you understand why you were placed there only when the moment arrives that requires your voice, courage, and faith. From the Pit to the Palace — Joseph’s Journey of Betrayal, Preparation, and Purpose Feat. Antonio Dominguez

Send us Fan Mail In Episode 9 of Gospel Unfiltered , host Cornell Bunting sits down with Antonio Dominguez for a powerful conversation centered on the life of Joseph and the journey that took him from betrayal and imprisonment to standing before Pharaoh. Joseph’s story is one of the clearest biblical examples of how purpose can survive betrayal, false accusation, delay, disappointment, and seasons of being overlooked. This episode explores Joseph’s journey from his early dreams to being rejected by his brothers, sold into slavery, tested in Potiphar’s house, falsely accused, forgotten in prison, and finally called before Pharaoh to interpret the dream that would change the course of his life. Together, Cornell and Antonio discuss: What happens when the promise feels real but the process feels painful How betrayal can affect identity and purpose The importance of integrity when no one is watching Why doing the right thing does not always produce immediate rewards How to remain faithful during seasons of delay What it means to use your gifts before recognition comes The difference between being forgotten by people and forgotten by God How adversity can prepare someone for leadership Why spiritual maturity matters when opportunity finally arrives How Joseph moved from simply having a dream to becoming a problem solver and strategist A key moment in Joseph’s story comes in Genesis 41:16 , when he tells Pharaoh: “It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.” That moment reveals how much Joseph had matured. The dream remained, but the dreamer had changed. This episode is for anyone who feels betrayed, overlooked, delayed, falsely judged, or stuck in a season where their purpose seems far away. Moses, Identity, Calling, and the Courage to Obey God Feat. David N. Thompson

Send us Fan Mail In this episode of Gospel Unfiltered , host Cornell Bunting sits down with David N. Thompson , man of God and author of Who in the Hell Do I Think I Am , for a powerful conversation about identity, calling, fear, failure, obedience, and purpose through the life of Moses. Moses’ story is one of the most relatable journeys in Scripture. He was born into danger, raised between two worlds, made serious mistakes, ran from his past, questioned his ability, and repeatedly asked God why he should be the one chosen for the assignment. At the burning bush, Moses asked a question many of us have asked in one form or another: “Who am I?” This episode explores what happens when our past, insecurity, fear, or failure begins to speak louder than God’s calling. Cornell and David discuss: Moses’ struggle with identity The meaning of the wilderness season Why failure does not automatically cancel purpose Moses’ excuses and fear of inadequacy The importance of obedience even when you feel unqualified Confronting the “Pharaohs” in our lives Deliverance, transformation, and renewing the mind Leadership, accountability, and the danger of carrying too much The importance of mentorship and preparing the next generation How faith helps us answer the question: Who am I really? The conversation also connects deeply with David N. Thompson’s book, Who in the Hell Do I Think I Am , and the ongoing struggle many people face in trying to understand who they are beyond their mistakes, labels, trauma, or past. This episode is for anyone who has ever felt overlooked, ashamed, afraid, unqualified, stuck in a wilderness season, or uncertain about their purpose. Sometimes God does not answer our insecurity by telling us how strong we are. Sometimes He answers by reminding us: “I will be with you.” Join us as we go Beyond the Pulpit for honest conversations, real stories, and Kingdom truth. Guest: David N. Abraham’s House: Promise, Conflict, and the Generations That Followed

Send us Fan Mail In this powerful episode of Gospel Unfiltered , host Cornell Bunting takes a deeper look into the life of Abraham and the complicated events that unfolded within his household. Abraham was called by God, given an extraordinary promise, and told that through him nations would be blessed. Yet behind that promise was a family story filled with waiting, impatience, jealousy, rejection, faith, and difficult decisions. Cornell explores the relationships between Abraham, Sarah, Hagar, Ishmael, and Isaac , examining what happened when human beings tried to fulfill God’s promise on their own timeline. The episode looks at the birth of Ishmael, the arrival of Isaac, the tension over inheritance and identity, Hagar’s experience in the wilderness, and the powerful truth that God continued to see, hear, and care for those who were hurting. The conversation also addresses an important question often raised today: Can the story of Isaac and Ishmael help us understand conflict in the Middle East? Rather than reducing modern events to a simple biblical family dispute, Cornell separates biblical history from modern political history while examining why Abraham, Isaac, Ishmael, covenant, ancestry, and the land remain deeply significant within Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Most importantly, this episode challenges listeners to consider the consequences of unresolved conflict, rejection, favoritism, generational pain, and inherited resentment . One of the most powerful moments in Abraham’s story comes at the end of his life, when Isaac and Ishmael come together to bury their father . Could that moment teach us something about reconciliation? Could people inherit a painful history without inheriting permanent hatred? And could God be calling this generation to become peacemakers in conflicts they did not personally create? This is more than a lesson about Abraham. It is a conversation about faith, family, identity, conflict, healing, and the responsibility we have to break destructive generational cycles . Join Cornell Bunting for Season 1, Episode 7 of Gospel Unfiltered: “Abraham’s House: Promise, Conflict, and the Generations That Followed.” Scriptures discussed include: Genesis 12, Genesis 15–17, Genesis 21, Genesis 25, Romans 4, Galatians 3, and Matthew 5:9.
