A/Prof Seana Gall - epidemiology visionary

Associate professor Seana Gall is an epidemiologist who has dedicated her life to finding out how our population is affected by heart disease and stroke.  She says that understanding what is behind the trends in these diseases can help us to prevent them. This is extremely important in Tasmania where some of the risk factors are higher than we would like them to be - but she says it’s easier to keep track of people here over the course of a long term study. We are were thrilled to have our first visionary epidemiologist step into the spotlight for this episode.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Rachel Power - tourism visionary

Rachel Power describes herself as a tourism entrepreneur but she's far more than that. She’s a cafe owner, but not just any cafe, it’s the only cafe in the world heritage listed Mount Field national park. She’s also a teacher and trainer and is now running an accommodation business and has plans for a conference centre also in the national park.  Rachel joined host Sam Ikin at BET headquarters for this episode of the Visionary Spotlight    See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Dr Reza Emad - maritime visionary

Reza Emad describes himself as a researcher fascinated by how humans and industry interact. We prefer to call him a visionary.  A seafarer by trade, Reza has spent a huge portion of his life on the ocean and he’s now the senior lecturer of nautical science at Australian Maritime College and the work research that he's doing is helping to change the world. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Greg Oates - education visionary

The visionary we are putting in the spotlight in this episode is Associate Professor Greg Oates.  Greg is an academic at UTAS who wants kids to have the power over their own destinies. He loves teaching so much that he teaches our teachers as the program director for the Bachelor of Primary Education course at UTAS where he’s making a real difference for the state.  He also thinks it’s essential for someone in his position to spread his understanding to others in his field through conferences and seminars many of which he’s organised or helped organise bringing dozens of international experts to Tasmania. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Sam Reid - hospitality visionary

Sam Reid describes himself as a storyteller but to anyone else, he’s known as one of the brains behind Willy Smith’s Apple Shed in the Huon Valley and more recently Du Cane Brewing in Launceston but that’s far from the whole story. We are thrilled to have him join us at BET headquarters for this episode of the visionary spotlight.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
