My summer sabbatical plans ☀️

This is my last day of work before I sign off for my summer sabbatical and I feel something close to that giddy excitement that I used to feel as a child before the school holidays of knowing that there’s an abundance of open space ahead of me to spend however I wish to each day. And my body is so ready for this break. To just be Jen the human for the summer, not also Jen the business owner. In today’s episode I share a little more about my plans for my summer sabbatical, how I made it possible to take this time off, and hopefully some encouragement for you if your body is ready to slow down and rest this summer too. How my mini enrolments have been going so far this year 🚀

One of my big goals for this year was to redefine what launching my group program gets to look and feel like in my business. After four years of doing three enrolments a year and putting a whole lot of energy into the warm up and launch window I knew that my body couldn’t sustain that anymore. And not just that, I also just felt really done with that type of approach to launching. I wanted it to feel way simpler, much more low-lift, and gentler on my nervous system too. So I decided to really slow down and soften my sales cycles this year. To do six mini low-lift enrolments instead of putting pressure on just three times a year to reach my sales goals. To sell to smaller segments of my email list and prioritise the waitlist most of all. And to opt-out of the narrative that we need to churn out more content, build more hype, and create more urgency to make enough sales to sustain our business. In today’s episode I share how my mini enrolments have been going so far this year, all of the numbers and sales, what I think has been supporting these sales cycles to gently thrive, and encouragement for you if you’re craving a slower, gentler, more low-lift approach to selling in your business too. Why I’m changing the sliding scale tiers for YS&SB 🪴

Rarely a week goes by where I’m not talking about pricing with my clients and YS&SB members. It’s both a really practical and emotional topic in our business. Practically our pricing is just what we charge for the work we do and how we design our offerings in a way that makes it sustainable and profitable for us to deliver them. But emotionally it can trigger a whole lot of feelings and fears. Fears around, who will pay me this? And am I allowed to charge this? And what about the people who can’t afford this? And am I even good enough to be paid this? And will I be able to make enough sales at this price point? And I’ve navigated this messy middle in my own business recently too as I made the decision to increase the sliding scale tiers for my group program after the next enrolment in July. In today’s episode I dive deeper into all the thoughts and feelings behind this pricing decision and some encouragement for you if you’re currently feeling stuck on what to charge or how to give yourself permission to increase your prices so that you don’t abandon your own needs in your pricing. What season of life is your business here to support? 🌻

If you ever feel like there are markers of success and growth that you have to hit to feel good enough in your business, today’s episode is for you. Because it’s okay to have a slower season in your business to honour the needs of your life. It’s okay to adjust your workload to make space for other priorities. And it’s okay to gently dial things back up again too whenever that may honour your desires and goals. Our business can bend alongside us and be something that grounds and supports our life instead of consuming it and dictating our days. So if you feel torn between what you truly desire in this season and the goals that you think that you should be pursuing instead, I hope today’s episode can ground you back into what is most aligned for you. How I’ve been gently reaching my next 100 hell yes people 🌸

One meaningful piece of content a week. That’s the foundation of my gentle marketing plan for this year. To carve out the energy, space, and time each week to sit down and create something that just feels like a meaningful dispatch from one human being to another. So much noise online right now is telling us that we need to be churning out content for business growth. That we need to please algorithms, hook attentions, and that if we can’t keep up with that pace then we should outsource to AI and let that create our content for us instead. But in all of that noise I think we can lose sight of what actually builds, grows, and sustains a business: resonance, connection and trust. In today’s episode I share some encouragement for why you don’t have to churn out more content to support your business to gently thrive and how I’ve been supporting my business to make steady sales, reach new hell yes people and continue to build resonance, connection, and trust with my existing readers and listeners too without pushing myself past my capacity. Reflecting on four years of running my group program 🌸

It has now been four years since I first opened the doors to my group program Your Simple & Spacious Business in April 2022. Four years since I built a whole new foundational piece of my business model and redefined what my work gets to look like and brought a whole lot more spaciousness and flexibility into my business too. And for today’s episode I want to share with you the biggest lessons I’ve learned from running and selling this program, what’s supported it to gently thrive over the past four years, and why you never have to feel stuck in any one version of your business that isn’t truly working best for you. I also share how much money YS&SB has made since 2022 and how building and running this program really changed everything for me in my business. Our day is the whole damn point 🪴

Whenever I come across business advice that I’m deciding whether or not if it’s relevant and supportive for me and my work I ask myself two questions: Do I have their day? And do I want their day? Because the real question isn’t: will this strategy or approach work? But instead, will it actually work for me? Over and over again I come back to the reminder that our day is the whole damn point. Because that’s the beating heart of a simple and spacious business: doing work we enjoy, spending our days and weeks at a pace that feels good to us, and where we are making enough money to sustain our life too. In today’s podcast episode I share more about why our day is the whole damn point and how we can root into that as our guide whenever we feel lost, overwhelmed, or overstimulated by all of the noise of what we should and could be doing next in our business. How I’m taking 4 months off from my business this year 🗓️

Something I’ve been thinking a lot about recently is how much de-centering my business has been one of the most supportive decisions I’ve ever made in my working life. Don’t get me wrong, I am so damn grateful for my business and so devoted to doing my best work for the wonderful humans I get to walk with each week. But I’m also not obsessed with my work, or endless growth, or defining my self-worth by how much I get done each week. We get to build businesses that orbit our life, not the other way around. And we get to do this whilst also running businesses that sustain our life financially and give us space to do work that we find meaningful and fulfilling too. One of the ways I do this in my business? By taking regular time off throughout the year. This year I’m taking 15 weeks off from my business and in this week’s podcast episode I’m sharing more about how I make this possible and some encouragement for how you can build more time off into you schedule too.
