Adrienne is a business lawyer who provides legal advice to the Vancouver Island Health Authority by day and legal training to business owners by night. In her evening work, she goes by the name The Gentle Lawyer with the not-so-covert mission of showing women business owners how law – both English common and natural – can and should work in their favour. Adrienne grew up near St. Brieux, Saskatchewan and achieved degrees in business and law before taking a winding career path through private practice, in-house counsel, entrepreneurship, government and in the areas of law, professional photography and healing arts. She now resides in Nanaimo, BC with her wonderful husband, Gregor, and their two fun-loving young children – Finn and Francesca. As an extroverted introvert, Adrienne loves nothing more than meeting friends for deep conversations over coffee and then cozying in with a fiction novel after the kids are fast asleep. :)Here's a snippet of what we chat about:Adrienne's journey to becoming The Gentle LawyerWhat lawyers are actually here to do for youWhy legally protecting your business is so importantHow contracts are protecting you and preserving your relationshipsHow legal can actually be loving and not scaryWhat are the most important ways to make sure you are protected as a business owner. What Adrienne's loving!Celebratory drink:ProseccoIced coffeeBook you’re reading or eyeing up: The rules of lawSong to listen to or genre of music: SilenceBusiness or brand to follow on social media: @iamgreerfrancesWellness practice: SilenceStay connected with Adrienne here:https://www.thegentlelawyer.com@thegentlelawyerStay connected with Greer Frances here:@iamgreerfranceswww.greerfrances.com

Listen, I’ve been at this branding thing for a while now… like 14 years. I’ve seen the backend of hundreds of businesses and helped build countless successful brands. It’s safe to say I’ve picked up a few interesting takes on building a brand along the way.Today I’m sharing one of the most recent ones with you: The idea that Your Brand is a Healing Mask.‘What the hell do I mean by that’, you ask?You know when little kids get obsessed with a particular superhero and they wear their costume for days on end because it makes them feel like they are, indeed, that superhero? Your brand has the same effect. When you have this polished, powerful, beautiful version of your business presented to the world through your brand, you get the same feelings that kid in the superhero costume does… Confidence. Safety. Expression. You feel fearless and powerful. You start to embody all of the attributes more fully that your brand represents. You see, when we have a brand that feels like a natural extension of us, it can actually give us this boost of confidence that we didn’t even know we needed. It no longer feels so scary for us to show up on social media because we have this beautiful brand that is representing us. We feel safe to express ourselves more fully because there is this layer of protection that our brand is providing that doesn’t make it feel so vulnerable for us to show up behind. And this isn’t about being deceptive, or faking it until you make it. This is about understanding the role that your brand can play for you emotionally. And this isn’t true for everyone. Some people don’t need their brand to put on as a mask. Some people are perfectly fine to go without it and free-wheel their expression. I would say the majority of us feel vulnerable AF to stand there with absolutely nothing on, expressing ourselves and waiting for the potential praise or criticism, though. And I know that society tells us that we ‘shouldn’t be worried about what other people think’ but we’re human beings who have hurts and wounds and traumas that get activated and triggered when we show up to express ourselves. Especially in an online world that can be extremely judgmental and cruel at times.Wearing our brand as a healing mask allows us to slowly build up our resilience behind it. And to look stunning while doing it! To me, there is nothing wrong with using our brand in this way… dare I even say, really leaning into it? It’s no different than getting dressed and putting our makeup on every day. It’s an act of personal expression, of allowing ourselves to feel as confident as possible. We all deserve to feel that way in our business.I don’t think adding more beauty or confidence in the world can be a bad thing. So I say go ahead and wear that branding mask proudly! And if you’d like to curate your mask together, book in for an Icon Maker Call and let’s chat.Stay connected with Greer Frances here:@iamgreerfranceswww.greerfrances.com

Today's guest is someone I am so inspired by, and learning so much from lately!Samantha is someone who has an unreasonable passion for wine (and food!) and sharing that with the world. She is a fully certified sommelier, focusing on bringing wine education to you in an intimate and hospitable way, whether that be online, in your home, a class she hosts, or at a pop-up event (...and soon to be monthly wine club membership ;) Her lens on the world of wine is that behind each bottle, there are stories to be told. Stories of the people who produced it, the place in which the grapes were grown, and the history behind it. Not only that, but she believes that wine is a fuel for authentic connection. It is not merely alcohol to be consumed, it’s a liquid that inspires us, enriches our connections, and elevates our spirits. Here's what we chatted about on today's episode:Samantha’s journey to becoming a wine educator/sommelier.Origin stories of businesses and how it usually leads back to one pivotal moment. The importance of creating beautiful experiences with food, wine & good company.Getting innovative in the hospitality industry. How her approach to marketing wine is different from what is currently out there.Samantha’s take on why wine has become so popular over the years.Plus we did a live wine tasting throughout the episode! What Samantha's Loving:Celebratory drink: Grower's ChampagneBook: Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara, The Song of Significance by Seth GodinArtist: Tyler ChildersBusiness or brand to follow on social media: @thecosmiclaundryWellness practice: Fresh air, exercise, staying hydratedLinks from the show:Crushable Wine ClubAverill CreekWine FollyDivergence Brut NatureLongavi Glup País WineWine Aroma WheelFind and stay connected with Samantha Here:Website: Samantha-rae.caPodcast: The Elysian Wine ClubInstagram: @samantha.rae.ca@elysianwineclubStay connected with Greer Frances here:@iamgreerfranceswww.greerfrances.com
