Garrett Boorojian and Kevin Abrams discuss relationship building in a team environment. In Kevin's 27 years with the New York Football Giants, he was an integral part of three Super Bowls (2000, 2007, and 2011) as a staff member and later a senior executive winning the latter two. The 115th guest on Garrett's podcast, Kevin spoke in depth about his entire career, from starting out as a salary cap analyst to working his way up to briefly Interim General Manager, but mainly holding senior titles centered around football operations. As a gentleman who was hoping to first land a scouting job in the National Football League, Kevin shared how his unpredictable path organically turned out well in operations, which became a natural spot for him. He explained how the negotiations in 2004 was an incredible master class that finally led to a historic deal to bring Eli Manning to New York after the San Diego Chargers drafted Eli. Kevin also talked about his great admiration for the Giants' ownership, General Manager, and longtime 3x Super Bowl Champion Tom Coughlin. Kevin expressed how grateful he was to work for what he considers to be the best organization in the NFL. Kevin, who's teaching in a part-time capacity at the Ivy League's Columbia University, has recently started his own sports advisory organization Sporting Alpha. Kevin expressed to Garrett that he's always looking to have different conversations with people as well as finding ways to collaborate with unique and innovative groups where synergies align. Abrams was the Giants' assistant general manager for 20 years and was also the team's vice president of football operations for the previous four years. Abrams was the Giants' salary cap analyst in his first three years with the franchise. Abrams is responsible for strategic planning related to football operations, data and innovation, managing the salary cap, negotiating player contracts, and compliance with the NFL's collective bargaining agreement. He also works closely with the college scouting and pro personnel departments. In July of 1999, Abrams was hired to fill the newly created position of salary cap analyst. He came to the Giants from the NFL Management Council, where he helped to monitor the league-wide salary cap and analyzed all new player contracts with respect to the collective bargaining agreement.
