Pioneering Impact VC | André Almeida Santos | The Red Chair
🎤 About The Red Chair:At our Lisbon office, we have a couple of big red, comfortable chairs that are perfect for a close and intimate conversation. We also happen to host a lot of remarkable people who drop by for a chat. We decided to combine the two, record those conversations and now we are sharing them with you every month!🤓 About our Guest:André Almeida Santos is an economist, investor and systems thinker working at the intersection of capital, leadership and systemic change. Over a career spanning more than 25 years, his work has encompassed venture capital, development finance, economic policy, entrepreneurship and academia across Europe, Africa and North America. As a Partner at Indico Capital Partners, André focuses on sustainability, regeneration and impact investing in the Blue Economy. He backs entrepreneurs developing technologies and business models capable of generating lasting economic value while improving ocean health, strengthening climate resilience and promoting the responsible use of natural resources. Before joining Indico, André spent a decade with the African Development Bank, working to reduce poverty and advance sustainable development across Africa. He coordinated multidisciplinary teams, developed long-term strategies for green and inclusive growth, advised governments and helped structure public- and private-sector investment programmes across the continent. Earlier in his career, he also founded a social enterprise focused on women’s empowerment. André holds a postgraduate degree in Finance from Universidade Católica and a Master in Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School, where he was also a Fellow and contributed to research and teaching on responsible investment, Just Transition, adaptive leadership, moral leadership and the ethics of decision-making. He is a member of the BMW Foundation Responsible Leaders Network and has helped mobilise the Inner Development Goals community in Portugal. Across these different roles, André’s work is guided by a practical question: how can capital empower people and enable their ambitions without extracting from the social and ecological systems on which prosperity depends? Alongside investing, he mentors entrepreneurs, contributes to public debate and explores how emerging technologies can be designed to strengthen human agency, inclusion and long-term stewardship.Based in Lisbon, André’s relationship with the ocean is both professional and personal: it is an investment field, a source of perspective and one of his happiest places. Our Website:http://www.indicocapital.comFollow Indico on Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/indicocapital/Follow Indico on LinkedIn: https://in.linkedin.com/company/indico-capital-partners?trk=ppro_cprofFollow Indico on Medium:indicocapital.medium.com
