Why the Wealthy Don't Contribute to Their 401(k)
Set up a time to talk to Glenn using the link here: https://calendly.com/glennyaney/infinite-banking-intro-call Why do so many high-income people keep putting more money into their 401(k) when their actual goal is to become financially independent? In this episode, I want to challenge the way we've been taught to think about retirement, saving, and building wealth. For years, I viewed my 401(k) as an insurance policy for my financial future. I thought I was doing the responsible thing by putting money away and getting a tax benefit. But eventually, I started asking a different question: What if my goal isn't to retire with a large retirement account—but to build enough income-producing assets that I don't need to retire? That's when my approach to money started to change. Instead of focusing exclusively on saving a percentage of my income, I began focusing on increasing my income, improving my savings rate, and acquiring cash-flowing assets through business and real estate. I share how my own savings rate went from roughly 20% to 50%, then 75%, and eventually toward financial independence—and why that changed the way I thought about where my capital should go. I also share the story of leaving a W-2 job where I was earning approximately $150,000 per year to pursue business ownership, real estate, raising capital, and building assets—even though my initial income dropped dramatically. That decision taught me an important lesson: Sometimes the path to greater wealth isn't maximizing today's income. It's positioning yourself to build assets that can produce income and appreciate over time. And this is where the Infinite Banking Concept fits into the bigger picture. I believe we need to rethink the traditional financial education we've been given—especially when it comes to cash flow, liquidity, taxes, retirement planning, real estate investing, and how we use our capital. Infinite Banking isn't about abandoning sound financial principles. It's about learning how to think differently about your money, your capital, and your ability to control and redeploy it. If you're a business owner, real estate investor, high-income W-2 professional, entrepreneur, or someone who wants to leave a W-2 job and build your own business, this conversation is for you. My goal with the Capitalizing Your Life Podcast is simple: help you accelerate your financial education so you can make better decisions with your capital and ultimately create greater financial independence. If this perspective challenges the way you've been taught to think about money, I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
