#38 Supervision & Mentorship - Dr. Brian Hemmings & Dr. Jonathan Katz
Hello and welcome back to the Slice of PIE podcast. This episode is a cracking one for those embarking on supervision, looking for a supervisor or even a neophyte supervisor looking to improve their skills, as well as those receiving mentorship or practicing as a mentor. I talk to former QSEP supervisors of mine Dr Brian Hemmings and Dr Jonathan Katz, who attempt to capture what they’ve learned in 20+ years of supervision and mentorship, along with the 14+ years of group supervision they have worked on together. The conversation was so fruitful we had to cut this episode into two parts. Dr Jonathan Katz is a former fencer turned coach, former counselling psychologist turned sport psychologist, and veteran of 4 paralympic games, Team England Head Coach for the 2010, 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Fencing Championships, BPS accredited supervisor and Business & Executive Coach as well. Dr Brian Hemmings has a similarly impressive career resume including 30+ years of experience in sport psychology consultancy including a prominent profile in golf psychology, as the lead psychologist to England golf for 17 years. Brian has hosted 4 national golf psychology conferences, runs masterclasses, and has been a keynote speaker at five PGA National Conferences across Europe. Brian also has a wealth of experience in numerous other sports, including professional cricket, Olympic and Commonwealth Games boxing, and motorsport including Formula 1/LeMans. In 2010 he was awarded a Fellowship by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences in recognition of 'esteemed personal achievement, skills, knowledge and service to CASES and the sport and exercise science community'.
