41. Introducing Life Coaching to China: A Journey of Courage and Compassion Featuring Liwei Yang

Imagine bringing life coaching to a country with 1.4 billion people. Where the concept is nearly unheard of. That’s the mission certified life coach Liwei Yang is pursuing with passion and purpose. She's redefining what it means to live authentically within and beyond cultural expectations. As an independent researcher turned technology consultant, Liwei built a career that looked successful on the surface but left her feeling unfulfilled and distant from herself and others. Her story is one of profound self-discovery and resilience, inspiring others in the Asian community to look beyond long-held cultural expectations and tune into their own intuition and desires. Throughout our conversation, Liwei shares her journey from struggling to meet traditional standards to embracing a path of personal liberation and compassion.  Her mission is to help young Asian leaders live more gently, sustainably, and courageously, leading from a place of self-trust instead of societal pressure. In this episode, you’ll hear: 🎙 Why life coaching is a powerful yet often misunderstood tool in Asian culture. 🎙 The impact of cultural conditioning on relationships and mental well-being and how Liwei found her own path to fulfilment. 🎙 Her vision to bring life coaching to China, helping people soften into compassion and patience while embracing modern perspectives. 🎙 How her own experience with the lack of racial representation has shaped her voice as a coach, especially to other Asians who would resonate more with someone who understands them and speaks their language. If you’re curious about how life coaching can make a lasting impact in one of the world’s largest populations, or simply want to hear a powerful story of personal liberation, this episode with Liwei Yang is not to be missed. 37. The critical role of relationship building in racial equity work featuring Tony Nabors

I'm thrilled to introduce you to Tony Nabors, the Founder of Racial Equity Insights, who brings over 20 years of experience in anti-racism work. Tony has held transformative roles, including being the first Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for a public housing authority in Washington state. He’s now living a truly global life, having relocated his family from the U.S. to Tanzania, then South Africa, and now Costa Rica.We talk about the powerful lessons Tony has learned about race while living abroad particularly the intersection of slavery and colonialism. Tony shares deeply insightful reflections on the difference between living in the global north vs the global south, calling in vs calling out,  the reframing of white privilege to 'white immunity' and the harmful racial lessons that even Black folks who are not immune to this work are making. We also get into strategies for handling “whataboutism,” a common tactic that derails conversations about race, and how we can begin the essential work of decolonising our minds. This episode is a must-listen for anyone passionate about dismantling harmful racial ideologies and striving for a more just world.LINKS:Tony NaborsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/racialequityinsights/Join Tony's Anti-Racism Community: https://www.instagram.com/p/C6Y9iAdxorC/Website: https://www.racialequityinsights.com/Get Instant Access to my Microaggressions 101 Live Training Replay where I teach you  how to hold safeR spaces in your online coaching business that will see you serve a wider and more racially diverse audience  👉🏾 https://anniegichuru.com/ltI'd love to invite you to dive deeper into this work by joining me for the next round of my 10 week online program REPRESENTED. 36. When Best Practice & Professional Are Code For Whiteness

Have you ever stopped to question who defines "best practice" or what it really means to be "professional"? I’m breaking down how these seemingly neutral terms often act as codes for whiteness, shaping the standards we’re all expected to follow—whether in the workplace or the coaching space. We’ll explore three critical areas where this plays out:Corporate Dress Codes & Professional Appearance: Did you know Black women are 2.5x more likely to have their natural hair labeled “unprofessional”? Even in 2024, natural styles like braids or afros can prevent people from advancing in their careers. I’ll share shocking statistics and explain how “professionalism” often centers whiteness. The Online Coaching Space: From the case studies we see to the frameworks we’re told to follow, the coaching industry is dominated by white experiences. I’ll reveal how these models exclude the lived realities of people of colour and how we can create more inclusive learning environments.Frameworks That Ignore Systemic Barriers: Many success strategies assume that everyone has equal access to resources, networks, and opportunities—but that’s far from the truth. I’ll unpack why frameworks rooted in whiteness fail to account for the unique challenges faced by people of colour.Links:Crown Act: https://www.thecrownact.com/Statistics: https://www.thecrownact.com/research-studiesI'd love to invite you to dive deeper into this work by joining me for the next round of my 10 week online program REPRESENTED. 35. What You Need To Know About Microaggressions

Lately, I've been talking a lot about microaggressions and last week I facilitated a live training on Microaggressions 101 to dive deeper into this topic that many people still don't know about, yet they occur in everyday language. In this episode I break down what microaggressions are, share some of the most common examples we see in everyday life, and even dive into one that's sparks a bit of controversy. But here's where it gets interesting—I also talk about why some thought leaders in anti-racism don't agree with the term microaggression and offer an alternative option. If you’re committed to creating more inclusive spaces or simply curious about the term 'microaggressions,' this episode is for you.REF:Ref: National Library of Medicine https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6007773/Ibram X Kendi: https://www.ibramxkendi.com/how-to-be-an-antiracistTiffany Jana: https://subtleactsofexclusion.com/LINKS:I'd love to invite you to dive deeper into this work by joining me for the next round of my 10 week online program REPRESENTED.
