On today's episode, we have Dr. Leanne Reimche for an episode on general internal medicine. She is a clinical associate professor at the university of Calgary and the section head for general internal medicine in the Calgary zone. She is an amazing instructor and practitioner with an interest in lifestyle medicine. In addition to providing in-patient care, she also has a specialty practice focused on metabolic syndrome, diabetes, hypertension, fatty liver and obesity.
On today's episode we have the wonderful Dr. Laurie Parsons for an episode on a career in dermatology. She is a dermatologist based in Calgary and a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Calgary. Her expertise are in wound care and contact dermatitis and she has been instrumental in shaping the education of aspiring dermatologists. In addition to her commitment to education at the undergraduate medical level, she also plays a significant role in national dermatology resident physician teaching. I had the privilege of learning dermatology through her lens and from what I remember, she was extremely receptive to feedback and answering questions and left me feeling a little less intimidated about all the things I had to learn. I am happy to introduce to you all, Dr. Laurie Parsons.
Dr. Nicole Johnson, a pediatric rheumatologist based in Calgary. She is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Calgary and received her university education at Canadian Institutions including McGill, McMaster, Queen’s and the University of Toronto. She is advocate for community awareness for children with rheumatic diseases and I had the honour of attending Dr. Johnson’s patient presentations where she had her young patients and their families join us for the afternoon to tell us about their experiences with different rheumatic conditions and the healthcare system. At this presentation she was referred to as a personal angel by each patient and their families. As you know, there are many subspecialties within pediatrics, but after witnessing the way she has transformed the lives of these young children, I am proud to have her for MedicMaps very first episode on pediatrics.

He received his MD at the University of British Columbia, and completed his neurosurgery residency at the University of Calgary. He also holds a Masters of Science in Health Services Research and completed a clinical fellowship in complex, minimally invasive spine surgery at the University of Miami. Dr. Yang is a member of the enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) society in Calgary and he has been leading the development of the ERAS program through his major contributions such as the development of the first ERAS guideline for lumbar fusion surgery. Beyond these works, his research efforts which focus on enhancing peri-operative outcomes and improving pain control after spinal surgery have been recognized internationally.Dr. Yang's innovative approaches and unwavering commitment to advancing patient care have solidified his position as a prominent leader in medicine.
