Mary recognizes the problem and brings it to Jesus. From this account, Rev. Woods identifies three major truths: 1. Take all your problems to Jesus—but resist telling Him what to do. Mary presents the problem to Jesus without prescribing the solution. This becomes an important lesson concerning prayer. God knows how to answer according to His purposes, timing, wisdom, and greater plan. Not every prayer is answered exactly as we anticipate, but believers can place their concerns before Christ and trust His wisdom. 2. Jesus is generous, not stingy. Jesus does not simply provide enough wine to barely resolve the crisis. Six large stone water jars are filled to the brim, and the water is transformed into exceptionally good wine. The master of the banquet declares that the best wine has been saved until last. The miracle reveals something about the character of Christ: Jesus is not a miser or a minimalist. His provision demonstrates generosity and grace. 3. Jesus is Master Over Matter. John 1:3 declares that all things were made through Jesus. At Cana, the Creator demonstrates His authority over creation itself. Water becomes wine through the command and power of Christ. The miracle therefore serves a greater purpose than simply meeting the needs of a wedding celebration. It is a sign pointing toward the identity of Jesus Christ. John records that through this sign Jesus revealed His glory, and His disciples believed in Him . Rev. Woods also examines the significance of Jesus performing His first sign at a wedding. Scripture later presents Christ as the Bridegroom and His people as His bride, pointing ultimately toward Jesus giving His life for those He came to redeem. The episode connects the miracle at Cana with the larger purpose of the Gospel of John: Jesus performed signs so that people might believe that He is the Messiah, the Son of God , and through believing receive life in His name. In this inspirational episode of The Kingdom Cross Roads Podcast , TS Wright welcomes Jordan Mendoza, whom TS calls a “Trailblazer,” for a candid conversation about overcoming difficult circumstances, extracting lessons from the past, and allowing God to transform tests into testimonies. Jordan begins by sharing the story of his mother, who lived for decades with only one lung despite being told early in life that she would not live to adulthood or have children. She ultimately raised five sons and became one of the greatest sources of encouragement in Jordan’s life. Jordan also discusses his relationship with his father, his difficult childhood environment, and the redemption he has witnessed within his family. Then the conversation turns to one of the defining moments of Jordan’s life. While traveling across the country in 2000, Jordan was involved in a devastating rollover accident on Interstate 80 in Wyoming. The truck rolled at highway speed, leaving Jordan with severe injuries and significant blood loss. Doctors warned that he might never walk again. Jordan refused to allow that prognosis to define his future. Through determination, recovery, and the grace of God, he progressed from a walker to a cane and crutches and ultimately experienced a full recovery. America, the Sleeping Giant and Her Slumbering Church Jolie explains that the concept behind her book developed while studying Ezekiel 16 . As she considered God's dealings with ancient Israel—His blessings, Israel's departure from Him, divine correction, repentance, and restoration—she began recognizing what she believes are important parallels with the spiritual history and present condition of America. America has exercised tremendous economic, political, cultural, and international influence, but Jolie argues that the nation has increasingly forgotten the source of its blessings. At the same time, she believes much of the American Church has become spiritually drowsy. The question becomes: Can America awaken if the Church itself remains asleep? The Danger of Spiritual Distraction TS and Jolie discuss how believers can gradually become distracted from God by careers, responsibilities, entertainment, personal ambitions, cultural pressures, and the ordinary busyness of life. Not every distraction is inherently sinful. The danger comes when legitimate things begin replacing Christ as the believer's highest priority. Jesus said: “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.” When God moves from first place to third, fourth, or fifth place, spiritual compromise can slowly follow. The Laodicean Problem TS connects the discussion with Revelation 3:14–22 and Jesus' warning to the Church of Laodicea. Laodicea believed it was rich, prosperous, and in need of nothing, yet Christ described its true spiritual condition very differently. That creates one of the central questions of this conversation: What happens when our perception of our spiritual condition is different from God's perception of it? Prosperity can create the illusion of independence. When people believe they need nothing, they can eventually begin living as though they do not need God. Lessons from Ancient Israel Jolie points to the recurring biblical pattern found in Israel's history. God blessed His people. They became comfortable. They drifted away. Their blessings were threatened or removed. They cried out to God. God raised up deliverance. The cycle eventually began again. This biblical pattern raises a sobering question for the modern Church: Could hardship become one of the instruments God uses to awaken His people to their dependence upon Him? The Church Must Lead Rather Than Follow TS and Jolie discuss the Church's responsibility to influence culture rather than simply imitate it. The Church is called to proclaim truth, make disciples, model biblical values, strengthen families, pray for communities, and serve as a spiritual watchman. When the Church loses that identity, compromise can spread from individuals into families, congregations, communities, and ultimately an entire culture. Jolie compares this process to an infection spreading throughout a body. The answer is not simply another program. The Church needs the transforming power of the Holy Spirit . Prayer Must Become Action One of Jolie's strongest challenges is that Christians must go beyond merely recognizing the problem. Believers should pray: “Lord, what can I do?” How can we reach our neighborhoods? How can we influence our schools and communities? How can we serve people around us? How can we become the tangible hands and feet of Jesus? Every believer has an opportunity to participate in what God is doing. You Were Born for This Time Jolie closes with a message of encouragement. You were born during this moment in history for a reason. God has a purpose for your life. Your wounds, failures, struggles, and past do not have to determine your future. God desires to heal, restore, deliver, and awaken His people so they can become everything He created them to be. Revival does not begin somewhere else. It begins when individual believers surrender themselves completely to God. Questions for Personal Reflection How hungry are you for God's Word? How much do you desire to spend time with Jesus? Are you allowing thoughts into your mind that should be brought into obedience to Christ? Have you allowed success, possessions, or religious performance to become substitutes for genuine discipleship? Is there anything in your life you are unwilling to surrender if Jesus asks you to let it go? Does your perception of your spiritual condition agree with what Jesus sees? Your Call to Action This week, intentionally evaluate what occupies your thoughts, influences your decisions, and determines your priorities. Ask yourself: Is this drawing me closer to Jesus, or is it pulling me away from Him? Commit to renewing your mind through Scripture, taking your thoughts captive, and surrendering every competing loyalty to Jesus Christ. Remember, faith must be lived out, and it begins in your mind. Final Thought The rich young ruler was confronted with the invitation, "Come, follow Me." That same invitation confronts every believer. Your response will reveal your priorities, expose your loyalties, and shape the direction of your life. Nothing in all creation is more important than our need for Jesus Christ.
