Young Stock Podcast - Supporting students that face food insecurity

Do you know what a bombshell is? This week the Young Stock team discuss the common terms used on Love Island, unique wedding features and the summer of freedom after the Leaving Certificate exams. The main interview is with Cork native Cian walsh who hails from a mixed dairy, beef and tillage farm in Bandon. He discusses why he decided to study government and political science in University College Cork and his involvement with the Students Union. A recent cost of living survey, indicated that 27% of students were cutting back on food expenditure, as a result the Students Union in UCC worked with Food Cloud to develop a free pantry that reduced the shame surrounding food banks. Supporting students in need while reducing food waste has resulted in the initiative redistributing the equivalent of 30,000 meals in their first year. Finally, Cian also talks about his placement with the European Commission, his involvement in Irelands Youth Food Forum and offers advice for incoming students.Join us at the UCD Lyons Crops Open Evening on Thursday, the 25th of June at 6pm where we will be recording the Irish Farmers Journal Tillage Podcast LIVE. You'll get a tour of cutting-edge research into milling wheat, intercropping, and nitrogen rates. Hear from UCD's Finbar Mulligan on feeding native Irish grain to dairy cows, plus Kevin McDonnell and Tomás McCabe on the season so far. It's a night not to be missed. Register now by clicking the link below”Please see link here: https://share-eu1.hsforms.com/1TD2IPxPUTuyqGnuWFnPwQwets9e  or www.ifj.ie/tillagepodcastlive  Hosted on Acast.
