From Mortgage Lender to Tahlequah Real Estate Agent

On this episode of Living in Tahlequah, I’m sitting down with Brent Houston, one of the newest real estate agents to join The Sells Team here in Tahlequah, Oklahoma! What makes Brent’s move into real estate especially interesting is his background in mortgage lending. Before becoming a real estate agent, Brent spent years helping buyers navigate the financing side of purchasing a home. He understands pre-approvals, loan programs, financing challenges, and what has to happen behind the scenes to successfully get a buyer from application all the way to the closing table. Now, he’s bringing that experience into real estate, and I think it gives him a valuable perspective when working with buyers and sellers. In this episode, Brent and I talk about his years in mortgage lending, why he decided to make the transition into real estate, what he’s learned since becoming an agent, and why he chose to join The Sells Team. We also talk about the Tahlequah real estate market, helping buyers understand the home-buying process, and what he’s most excited about as he starts this next chapter. I’ve been in real estate in Tahlequah and Northeast Oklahoma for more than 25 years, and one thing I’ve learned is that buying or selling a home involves a lot more than simply finding a property or putting a sign in the yard. Financing plays a major role in most transactions, so having someone on our team who has spent years on the mortgage side of the business brings another level of knowledge and experience to the table. If you’re thinking about buying a home in Tahlequah, selling a home, moving to Northeast Oklahoma, or looking for property around Cherokee County or Lake Tenkiller, I hope you’ll enjoy getting to know Brent and hearing his story. On Living in Tahlequah, I talk about real estate, our local housing market, businesses, community, and the people who make Tahlequah and Northeast Oklahoma such a special place to live. Cherokee National Holiday is one of the biggest weekends of the year in Tahlequah, bringing together Cherokee culture, history, family, food, traditional games, art, live entertainment, the Inter-Tribal Powwow and so much more. This year’s theme is “Together: A Legacy of Community, Family & Culture.” In this episode of Living in Tahlequah, I’m sharing my local tips for making the most of Holiday weekend—from navigating the crowds and using the shuttle system to deciding what events to attend, where to eat, what to bring and why you shouldn’t try to fit everything into one day.
