He first came on the podcast in February 2023, after experiencing alopecia areata, which evolved into universalis, and lost all of the hair on his entire body. He began using JAK inhibitors to treat his condition, which were not approved on the NHS at the time to treat hair loss. He joins me today with an update on his progress, sharing that he has now tried three different types of JAK inhibitor, the challenges that have come with this, and even the clinical trial he is now participating in. Tommy says that he has come to terms with his hair loss, and how this experience has forced him to challenge what he felt about himself, his identity and his relationship with how he looks. He has seen great success in the last 18 months, with his SALT score going from 100 to 7! Michelle Doan is an immigrant, born in Vietnam, she fled the country with her family after the fall of Saigon, and ended up in Thailand. She settled in Canada at ten years old, and was only the second Asian family in the whole school. She couldn't speak English and found it diffucult. As a teen she developed cystic acne, and shares that she felt very ugly and like she didn't fit in. This led to her feeling isolated, until she found an aesthetician that could give her help and advice on managing her skin. Later on she was going through a divorce, sleeping on someone's sofa and trying to build a business. She ended up with depression, but was in denial. She then found that during COVID, her business dropped and everything changed. Michelle shares how she didn't feel confident or beautiful growing up, and Emani was created from frustration. She was able to create products that helped to meet her own needs as she navigated hormonal changes and sensitive skin. She began to curate her thoughts, and these days, her positive mindset and habits is key to her success. She beleives in building welness from within aswell as the outside.
