166. 9 Protective Parts Activated by Ambition
What if the thing holding you back in business isn’t a lack of strategy… but a part of you that learned a long time ago how to keep you safe? In this episode of Power Women , I’m breaking down the 9 protective parts that get activated by ambition — the overthinker, perfectionist, people pleaser, rejection reactor, hider, achiever, controller, chameleon, and approval seeker. These parts aren’t here because something is wrong with you. They often developed from experiences much earlier in life, when your brain and body learned things like: Don’t get it wrong. Don’t disappoint anyone. Don’t be too visible. Don’t get rejected. Stay in control. Achieve so you know you’re enough. Then you start a business, make a bold offer, raise your prices, share your opinion, put yourself online, or pursue something bigger… and suddenly those old protective patterns get LOUD. I’ll show you how each one can appear in your business — from rewriting a post 100 times, to hiding after success, constantly changing your niche, obsessing over analytics, undercharging, or allowing a few “no’s” to convince you your whole business isn’t working. I also share a deeply personal experience of going back to my two-year-old self and meeting the shame she had carried after putting a button up her nose. Instead of trying to fix or get rid of that younger version of me, I learned to meet her with love, safety, and compassion — and it changed something in me that I had carried for decades. Because the goal isn’t to fight these parts. It’s to understand them enough that they no longer have to run the show. In this episode, we talk about: How to recognize your first voice versus the fearful mental chatter that follows it The 9 protective parts that commonly show up in ambitious women How childhood experiences can shape the way you market, sell, lead, create, and make decisions today Why overthinking, perfectionism, people pleasing, hiding, and controlling can actually be attempts to create safety Why business has a way of bringing your deepest patterns straight to the surface How parts work, somatic work, and breathwork can help you reconnect with your true self Why your next “power move” may be much smaller and quieter than you think What changes when you stop trying to fix yourself and start listening to yourself I also share the unexpected experience I had stopping at my grandparents’ old property on my drive home from a retreat — and how following one tiny internal nudge became a powerful reminder of where I come from, what I carry, and the abundance and strength that came before me. Your true self does not need to earn approval, constantly achieve, perfectly control the outcome, or become who everyone else wants you to be. She creates. She knows. She speaks. And the more you learn to hear her, the more powerfully you can build the business and life that actually belong to you. Ready to go deeper? And if this work is calling to you, it will also be at the heart of my upcoming True Self retreat in January , where we’ll explore your inner voice, parts work, breathwork, and the deeper healing that allows you to create from who you really are. Keep shining, Power Woman — and this week, pay attention to that first little voice before the chatter gets a chance to take over. Want more help?
