How Many Christmas Light Installs Can You Do in a Day?

It is the first week of October. Installs have started. So how many houses should you be putting up in a day? A new contractor should block 4 to 6 hours per home. A dialed in crew with a real pre-build system is done in 2 hours or less. That is the difference between 2 houses a day and 5. Here is what that means in money. A guy in my group lost a job at $5 a foot. He does not think anybody can get $8. I watched a video from a contractor in Dallas saying the exact same thing. You cannot get $8 a foot in this market. Here is the truth. You cannot get $8 a foot selling bulbs. Christmas lights have no pain. Nobody's roof is broken. Nobody's insurance company is writing them a letter. So when you walk in and sell it by the foot, the clips, the bulbs, the wire, you are selling a commodity. And a commodity always goes to the cheapest guy. The contractors getting $8 to $12 a foot are not selling lights. They are selling the grandkids' faces the first time the house lights up.
