501: Behind the Rank: When Your Confidence Depends on the Scoreboard with Missy Hydes

Missy Hydes is a NVP with Arbonne that has been in this profession for 22 years. In 2019, something happened she has never been able to explain. For three months, her business multiplied in a way that didn't make any sense. She wasn't pushing. She wasn't up until 2 a.m. on the closing night turning over every rock. She was running a 6 a.m. bible study, and telling her team that she loved them. Every day. Here's what she couldn't explain. The people on her team started moving without her having to carry them. Other leaders started asking her what she was doing and she didn't even know what to tell them. Because the honest answer wasn't a system or a strategy. She couldn't explain it. Twelve days after her big promotion, she wrote something in her journal: 'I can tell fear is trying to creep in, because I'm already afraid we're gonna lose everything we've just built.' Over the next three years, she lost the title and watched most of her leaders quietly lay their businesses down. But she never left. Even though there were plenty of moments when she wanted to. Somewhere along the way she stopped telling her team she loved them. Stopped talking about culture. Started to focus on the rank, the numbers, and the pressures of leadership. She even reached a point where she completely stopped posting on social media altogether. What she didn't realize was all the weight of carrying the rank and success caused her to emotionally disconnect from the business she once loved. This conversation with Missy is about the season she could never explain, what happened when the scoreboard became the source of her confidence, and what she's beginning to understand about both of those things right now.
