Green Jackets to Green Badges

In this episode, we sit down with Stan Bowes and Gary Fisher, two former soldiers who served together in the Royal Green Jackets Regiment, completing multiple tours and deployments during their military careers. Although the regiment has since been disbanded and reorganised, the camaraderie, discipline and experiences they shared remain as strong as ever.   After leaving the Armed Forces, both Stan and Gary embarked on a very different challenge — earning their Green Badges and becoming Licensed London Black Cab drivers. From Green Jackets to Green Badges, they discuss the similarities between military service and completing the Knowledge of London, the dedication required to succeed, and how the transition from soldier to cab driver provided them with a rewarding second career.   We talk about life in the military, memorable moments from their service, the challenges of adjusting to civilian life, and why they believe the Knowledge offers an ideal career path for ex-service men and women. Their stories highlight the importance of resilience, self-discipline, independence and purpose — qualities that military veterans already possess in abundance.   If you've ever wondered what it takes to make the journey from serving your country to navigating the streets of London, this is an inspiring conversation you won't want to miss. 🎙️ Featuring: Stan Bowes & Gary Fisher 🚖 From Green Jackets to Green Badges – Military Service, The Knowledge, and Life as a London Cab Driver. Keep the Rules or Change the Game? London Taxi Debate Heats Up

🚖 London Taxi Debate: Should the Rules Change? 🚖 In today’s podcast, we’re joined by Paul Byron (HP Taxis) and Trevor Merralls (United Cab Drivers Group) for a straight-talking discussion on one of the biggest issues facing the trade right now. From their perspective, the current regulations that define London taxis — including turning circle and vehicle specifications — should remain firmly in place. They explain why they believe allowing the new Ford Maxicab could fundamentally change the identity of the London taxi. We also dive into what they’re hearing behind the scenes about the next generation of taxis, including insights and trade rumours surrounding the upcoming LEVC model set to replace the TXE. 💬 Expect strong opinions, insider knowledge, and a proper debate from both sides of the argument. 👉 Whether you’re for change or against it, this is one conversation every driver should hear. #LondonTaxi #BlackCab #TaxiDebate #FordMaxicab #TXE #KnowledgeOfLondon #TaxiTrade Join this channel to get access to perks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCC92MPgJX5sUON85DjKLrpA/join

Is It Inevitable? The Turning Circle Rule Could Be Gone

London’s taxi industry could be facing a major change… In this episode, Dean Warrington and co-host David Frampton sit down with Peter Fecenna from Allied Vehicles (Maxi Cab), alongside Grant Davis from the London Cab Drivers Club (LCDC), to discuss the push to bring a Ford taxi into the London market. At the centre of the debate is one critical issue: Should the strict turning circle requirement be removed? This rule has defined what a London taxi is for decades — but is it still necessary, or is it holding the industry back? We get into: Why Allied Vehicles want the rules changed What the turning circle requirement really means in practice The potential impact on drivers, passengers, and the identity of the black cab The concerns from within the trade Whether this is progress… or a step too far   This is a conversation every London cab driver — and anyone interested in the future of the trade — needs to hear. From Lorry Driver to London Cabbie: The John ‘Ronseal’ Kendall Story🎙️

🎙️ Podcast Intro Script Welcome back to the podcast — today we’ve got a brilliant and inspiring guest with us… John Kendall, better known by many in the trade as “Ronseal” — and if you’ve ever seen his famously permanent brown tan, you’ll understand exactly why that nickname stuck. 😄 John’s story is a proper one. Before completing the Knowledge of London, he was already out there working the streets as a Yellow Badge driver, and before that he spent years behind the wheel of a lorry, so driving has always been in his blood. But John’s journey hasn’t just been about learning runs and calling points. He’s also overcome some serious personal challenges along the way. John has a stammer, which meant he was given additional time in his Knowledge appearances — but he still stood there, did the work, and got it done. And if that wasn’t enough, he also made a huge life change for his health. John travelled to Turkey to have surgery that removed most of his stomach in order to lose weight. The transformation has been incredible — going from a super-large bloke to a normal-sized man, completely changing his lifestyle in the process. So today we’re going to talk about the Knowledge, determination, setbacks, health changes, life on the road, and what it really takes to keep pushing forward when things aren’t easy. This is the story of John “Ronseal” Kendall — and trust me, this one’s worth listening to. Let’s get into it. 🎧 Join this channel to get access to perks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCC92MPgJX5sUON85DjKLrpA/join

Changing Lanes: Why PHV Driving Isn’t Ideal for Studying the Knowledge

In this episode, Dean sits down with Daniel Bowry for a candid and insightful conversation about his journey into the world of the Knowledge of London. Daniel opens up about his decision to leave a career as a professional chef and make the bold switch to becoming a cab driver, sharing the challenges, motivations, and realities behind such a major life change. He discusses his experience working as a Private Hire Vehicle (PHV) driver, explaining why, in his view, it isn’t the ideal position when trying to study and complete the Knowledge — from time pressures to distractions and the practical difficulties of balancing work and study. Daniel also reflects on the powerful influence of his late grandfather, who was a London cabbie, and how his legacy played a key role in inspiring Daniel to pursue and ultimately complete the Knowledge himself. A thoughtful, honest, and inspiring conversation for anyone interested in the Knowledge, career change, or the traditions of London’s taxi trade. Join this channel to get access to perks:
