Epi 351 | 12 Gold Nuggets from Our Most Popular Episodes in the Last 12 Months
We've been making the Wealthy Woman Lawyer® podcast for more than seven years now. A lot of good material gets said once around here and then rolls off into the archive, so I went back and pulled the 12 most downloaded episodes of the last 12 months and took one takeaway out of each. Then I counted them down. Here's some of what made the list. The sentence I said to a personal injury owner whose firm was doing high seven figures and who still could not leave for a week. If everything falls apart when you step away, you don't own a business. You own a very demanding, very stressful job. There's $84 trillion moving between generations in this country right now, and by 2030 women are expected to control as much as $30 trillion of it. Those women are going to need an estate planning attorney, a business attorney, a family law attorney. Whether they can find you is a different question. Most firms automate the calendar and the intake form and stop there, which is the easy part. Picture a firm converting 5 percent of its website visitors, which is normal. Add follow-up that happens whether or not anyone in your office remembers to do it and that number can reach 18 percent. Same traffic, same website, 3.6 times the clients. When we sit down with a new client and look at her fee structure, we routinely find she's undercharging by 30 to 50 percent. The fee usually got set years ago by a version of her with less experience and less confidence, and nobody has revisited it since. One client was upset about the $9,000 she'd spent on Google Ads over six months. That $9,000 brought her one client. That client paid her firm $40,000. She couldn't see the $31,000 return because she was staring at the expense line. And my personal favorite of the 12: email is other people's agenda for your life. There are six more, including the one about choosing your uncomfortable, and the reason burnout has less to do with how many hours you work than which hours you're spending on the wrong things.
