The Hidden History of World War II: Stories We Were Never Told | Pacific Atrocities Education Ep. 176

Some of the devastating stories of World War II were never written down. They weren't shared in schools or remembered by anyone but those who lived them. Pacific Atrocities Education was founded to recover the voices history left out. Founder Jenny Chan traces the mission back to her own grandmother, who survived the occupation of Hong Kong. In this episode, she gives insight into why these stories were buried for so long and their race to preserve them before they're lost forever. Her team has seen firsthand what these stories can do: help survivors feel seen, and build the empathy that keeps history from repeating. It Started With 15 Meals, Now It's 2 Million | From Meal Service to Culinary Career Training: Shepherd's Table Ep. 168

If you care about homelessness and food insecurity, you've probably asked yourself: where can my support actually change someone's life for good, not just for a night? 43 years ago, 15 people sat down to dinner in a small house kitchen in Montgomery County. Today, Shepherd's Table has served over 2 million meals and has never missed a single day. Daniella Burgos, Director of Development, joins Jamie to talk about how their community's response to hunger grew into something far bigger than a soup kitchen — a 12-week Culinary Skills Training Program that has turned meal guests into professional chefs, a free eye clinic, and a clothing closet that restores dignity one outfit at a time. With neighbors in Montgomery County still facing food insecurity, homelessness, and poverty every day, Shepherd's Table hasn't stopped showing up. Get involved at shepherdstable.org . Kids Without Beds in America: The Hidden Crisis | Sleep in Heavenly Peace Episode 167

Tonight, kids in your town are falling asleep on cold, hard floors. Not because of neglect, but simply because their families don't have beds. Luke Mickelson heard about a family in his community whose children were sleeping on hardwood floors, so he built them a bed. Then he built another, and another. His work eventually turned into Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a nonprofit that has now delivered over 360,000 beds across 47 states and four countries. In this episode, you'll learn why a bed is more than just a bed, how two foster siblings nearly lost each other without one, and how anyone can show up to a building event and help change a child's life. With over 160,000 kids on their waiting list, the need is enormous. Learn how to get involved at shpbeds.org .
