What Social Media Success Actually Requires in 2026: Part 1
Send us Fan Mail I’ve been working in social media since 2012, which basically means I’ve lived through multiple lifetimes of the internet. 😂 And after more than a decade in this industry, I’ve learned that exceptional content, a great strategy, and amazing metrics matter—but they’re not the only things that determine whether you’ll actually succeed on social media. There are certain mindsets and behaviors I see over and over again in the people and brands that build something meaningful online—and in this two-part series, I’m breaking down what I believe social media success actually requires in 2026. In Part 1, we’re talking about two of the biggest ones: First: you need a mindset of sustainability. The brands and personal brands we think of as “overnight successes” are often 10+ years in the making. Social media isn’t a 30-day campaign. If you want to build a brand that lasts, you have to build a relationship with visibility that you can sustain for years—and be willing to keep showing up, experimenting and evolving along the way. Second: you have to get over your posts not performing. Some posts are going to flop. Something you LOVE might get 17 likes. And guess what? No one is sitting at home analyzing your engagement and deciding your business must be failing. 😂 We’re talking about the Spotlight Effect, why we dramatically overestimate how much other people are paying attention to our performance, and how to stop letting your metrics dictate whether you're willing to show up again tomorrow. This isn't an episode about hacks, viral hooks or gaming the algorithm. It's about developing the mindset required to stay visible long enough for social media to actually work. Because a low-performing post isn't a public humiliation. It's data. Learn from it. Make the next thing. And keep going. Part 2 coming next: why you need to show your face, deeply understand your WHO, develop a growth mindset around evolution, and commit to becoming a practitioner.
