You Don't Have an AI Problem, You Have an OVERTHINKING Problem
Jim got three hours in front of a room of entrepreneurs who each run a business north of half a million dollars, with permission to go as deep as he wanted. He opened with the most basic explanation of what a large language model actually is. It was the right call. It also points straight at the thing quietly eating your calendar: you don't have an AI problem, you have an overthinking problem. **It's August.** You told yourself this summer would be different. More time with the kids. Longer weekends. Laptop closed by six. Instead, the space you created got filled with more work. Jim's argument: that is not a character flaw and it is not a discipline problem. It is a systems problem, and specifically a problem of building too much. **The three traps** - **The complexity trap.** The more elaborate the system, the more it needs you to maintain it. If you have quietly become the maintenance crew for your own AI stack, what are you actually doing? - **The speed illusion.** AI genuinely does make tasks faster, and most of us immediately refill that saved time with more tasks. You didn't get time back. You got busier faster. - **The missing link.** The biggest wins are not hiding inside the most sophisticated builds. They are in the simplest connections already sitting in front of you. **The fix is smaller than you think** No custom app. No code. Turn on the connectors already built into ChatGPT and Claude so the model can reach your email, calendar, Drive, Slack and files on demand. - **ChatGPT:** settings, then integrations. - **Claude:** the plus sign in the lower left, then connectors, then manage connectors. Once they are on, "find my Q3 planning doc and pull out the 3 biggest open questions" simply works. You stop feeding it context and it goes and finds what it needs. > "AI is a mirror. It's not a magician. You bring vague ideas and you get polished vagueness." > "Most people are trying to build a rocket when all they need is a slightly better car." Build the car. Solve the real problem. Make the money. Then go explore the rocket. **Links** - Control Alt Built, Jim's community: https://jimcarter.me **Timestamps** 00:37 The mastermind room and what actually landed 03:35 It's August, where did the time go? 04:48 The overthinking problem 06:03 The complexity trap 07:13 The speed illusion 08:40 The missing link 10:14 Connect your email, calendar and files to your AI 11:02 Turning on connectors in ChatGPT and Claude 12:52 Rocket versus car, build the car first The Prompt is a Cast.house production. https://casthouse.ai
