There are 5 pivotal promotions in our careers. How we perform in them determines how far we go. These are: First time manager Manager of managers Global or Cross Functional Leader Enterprise leader CXO They are characterized by: ✅ Increasing size and scope ✅ Increasing complexity ✅ Increasing volume and diversity of stakeholders ✅ Increasing team and location complexity ✅ Increasing challenges (ahem… problems!) and Increasing Impact Each of these promotions is complex and needs: 😰 New knowledge, skills & competencies 😰 Effective transition planning that sets you up for success 😰 Greater self awareness 😰 Leadership growth 😰 Overcoming your own barriers and limiting beliefs No wonder HALF of all leadership transitions fail‼️😱 These promotions should come with ‘how to’ manuals, but they don’t. We are left on our own, to figure out the growth journey we need to undertake to be effective in the new role.
