My new friend, Michael J. Masucci, is an award-winning independent director, artist, and curator with a long history in the arts of Los Angeles. His background includes founding the EZTV media center in 1979, which grew into an open-access media lab, independent production company, theater, and gallery space. EZTV brought together a diverse cross-section of the city's creatives, showcasing experimental motion capture video, feminist performance, and transgressive exhibitions. Masucci believes that technology and art are deeply intertwined. He believes artists are often at the forefront of exploring new technologies and using them to push the boundaries of creative expression. He has been a vocal advocate for the role of technology in empowering artists and introducing the public to cultural advancements. With a multidisciplinary approach spanning video art, digital media, sound, performance art, and stage productions, Masucci's innovative spirit and avant-garde vision have inspired generations of artists and continue to shape the landscape of contemporary art. In this episode, I'm with Robert Kozinets, a globally-recognized expert on social media research, digital activism, fan culture, and brand strategy in the age of platforms. He invented netnography in 1995 and has researched the intersection of media, culture, desire, and brands ever since. Robert has conducted research and consulting for major companies worldwide, including L'Oréal, Heinz, Coca-Cola, and American Express. He is an associate editor at the Journal of Marketing and the Journal of Consumer Research. Robert is also an incoming Chair of the Policy Board of the Journal of Association for Consumer Research and a professor of journalism at USC.
