Connecting Across DR(I)P and Borders - David Andres Janeczko

Links to Disaster Recovery Plan's -InstagramAnd David's Instagram: In this episode of the Business Student Podcast, I got to talk with David Andres Janeczko, an engineer, designer, and entrepreneur that I met at Polonia Camp last July. David shared his journey from attending Polonia Camp, where he presented his streetwear brand, Disaster Recovery Plan. We discussed the challenges of entrepreneurship, DRP's innovative marketing strategies, and the importance of community engagement. David also shared his experiences from studying in Shanghai, working with diverse teams, and the value of every random job he has had. The conversation touches on themes of self-discovery, cultural identity, and the future of young Polish people abroad, culminating in advice on empathy and connection in a fragmented world. While David has since wound down DRP due to business problems, I've still decided to publish it because I got so much out of it and thanks to David for letting me do so anyway - I guess his lesson to all of you - don't be embarassed by the stumbling, show off what you've done anyway (yes, that's quite cliché, but do you really care that it's cliché?) :)TakeawaysDavid emphasizes the importance of being present in every moment. He believes that every job, no matter how small, has value.David's brand promotes the idea that everyone makes mistakes and can learn from them.He highlights the significance of community engagement for brand growth.David's experiences in Shanghai shaped his perspective on global citizenship. He encourages young people to embrace their cultural identities while being open to others.David's innovative marketing strategies include creative social media campaigns. He stresses the need for empathy in today's fragmented society.David's journey reflects the challenges and rewards of entrepreneurship. He believes in the power of collaboration and knowledge exchange. From the Path of a Future Actuary to Pistes in the Alps – Paweł Zieliński

In this episode, I sat down with (after a long day of skiing) Paweł, my friend/boss from the Polish school who is currently on the path to become an actuary. Wasn't expecting for this to be such a good way to wind down with a beer as cold as the Alps and discover things about him I hadn't thought of asking before - probably because at work, there's only so much time to talk between classes (we got some banging crèpes afterwards). So what did I find out? How he found running the school shop, his journey as a maths teacher (which reflect quite well my life), college through COVID, his work as a future actuary at RedClick and his views on Polonia Camp and the Polish diaspora. If you're interested in becoming one, here's Paweł's LinkedIn and if you want to see him carving it down Devil's Asscrack (totally real name of a black piste in Les Deux Alpes), then watch that intro with obnoxious après-ski music I made (+ a photo of me falling down, but hey, I'm quite good at parallel skiing now). Some cheeky links like I linked those turns on Devil's Asscrack;) :Paweł in the Youth Polonia Council (involved with the Polish Senate)UCD Formula Student

Going to Japan – for Work??? How Saying ‘Yes’ to the Things That Felt Uncomfortable Launched Me Into Space (Kinda)

In this episode of the Business Student Podcast, I share my transformative journey to Japan, highlighting chance encounters and lessons learned. From meeting the 'Expo Grandpa' who inspired me (and now you!) to pursue your dreams, to reflecting on personal struggles with binge eating and childhood aspirations of becoming an astronaut, I force myself to confront the difficulties of being a business student while seeking fulfilment. I also emphasise the importance of stepping out of comfort zones, making connections, and maintaining curiosity in life.Key TakeawaysIf you're chasing after the life you want, you will do anything to make it happenYou need to get advice from strangers instead of friends and family to embrace it (I signed up to therapy to fix my binge-eating and other personal problems after talking with the 'Expo Grandpa'). Talk with people for who they are, and not what they have done, and you'll connect with them a whole lot better. We don't always have to do what we wanted as children.Balancing comfort and growth is difficult - especially when you love your life. You're not going to far in your personal and professional life if you don't stay curious.Networking can lead to unexpected opportunities - even if you don't want to be that type of person on LinkedIn.Experiencing new things can reignite that sense of wonder you had as a child. For the love of God, give yourself a break from hustling and make real friendships - especially with the people that don't look like your typical friend group.LinksRonald at the World Expo 2025 in OsakaRonald at the Paris 2024 OlympicsBit more about Ronald's storyChapters00:00 The Journey Begins: A Trip to Japan01:29 Lessons from the Expo Grandpa04:30 Strange(r) Advice: A New Podcast Segment07:22 Why I Flew to Japan and the Impact of Imposter Syndrome09:20 Meeting a Polish Astronaut: Fulfilling the Dreams of My Inner Child and Treating Celebrities with Respect12:47 Reflections on Childhood Dreams and Career Choices16:18 Networking and Embracing Uncomfortable Situations18:23 Balancing the Joy of New Experiences with the Comfort of the Familiar24:44 Connections Made on the Journey28:25 Culinary Adventures in Japan29:29 Final Thoughts and Future Aspirations
