How JT the Bigga Figga & Mac Mall Made “Game Recognize Game”

Send us Fan Mail Sleep Dank shares the firsthand story behind the making of “Game Recognize Game” by JT the Bigga Figga featuring Mac Mall — and what it was like witnessing the record come together in real time. Sleep takes us back to the early ’90s, when JT pulled up looking for Mac Mall and took them straight to Fillmore. Once they arrived, JT pulled up the “Game Recognize Game” beat and Mac Mall went to work — writing and recording his verse incredibly fast and coming up with the song’s memorable hook on the spot. Sleep also recalls what happened after the session and how that day became another piece of Bay Area rap history he witnessed firsthand. Dubee Explains the Politics Behind Saying “Cuddie” in Vallejo

Send us Fan Mail Dubee aka Sugawolf breaks down the deeper street and neighborhood politics behind the word “cuddie” and its association with the Crestside of Vallejo. According to Dubee, it isn't as simple as saying that somebody who isn't from the Crest can't use the word. The bigger issue is understanding what using certain slang can represent depending on where you are and who you're around. Dubee explains that somebody might say “cuddie” simply because they grew up on the music or identify with the culture — but in another environment, people may interpret it as an actual association with the Crest. He also explains that these associations haven't necessarily disappeared with the younger generation and may carry meanings that are different from how his generation experienced them. Dubee on PSD, Prison & Lessons Learned

Send us Fan Mail Dubee aka Sugawolf opens up about one of the hardest experiences of his life: going through the prison system and learning a painful lesson about loyalty, friendship and trusting the people closest to you. Dubee explains how warnings his mother gave him when he was younger finally made sense after he went through the federal system. He remembers defending his longtime friend and Cutthoat Committee partner PSD when others questioned his situation, only to later say that information he encountered while reviewing his federal discovery changed the way he viewed their relationship. Dubee explains why, from his perspective, information contained in the paperwork led him to believe PSD had provided information to authorities. He also makes an important distinction: Dubee says the information he attributes to PSD was not what directly sent him to prison, but he believed it helped reinforce the government's understanding of his activities. The conversation becomes bigger than the case itself as Dubee reflects on losing someone he considered a brother, why the two couldn't repair their relationship, and what the experience taught him about choices, loyalty and accountability. Ultimately, Dubee explains that the biggest betrayal isn't necessarily betraying the people around you, it's betraying the person you have to face when you look in the mirror. 🕊️ Rest in Peace PSD. Dubee Remembers Syko: “He Was More Than Just a Producer”

Send us Fan Mail Dubee aka Sugawolf remembers his close friend Syko and explains why their relationship went far beyond music. Dubee talks about traveling to Portland to spend time with Syko, being welcomed by Syko’s father like another son, and developing a genuine family bond with the producer. As Dubee puts it, Syko was “blood, family… beyond the music.” Syko would go on to work with Mac Dre and produce on Thizzelle Washington, but Dubee explains that Syko wasn’t kept around simply because of his talent. He was somebody they genuinely cared about, whether music was involved or not. Dubee on Mac Dre’s Murder

Send us Fan Mail Dubee aka Sugawolf speaks candidly about the murder of his longtime friend and collaborator Mac Dre and confirms that he was in Kansas City when Dre was killed. Banski asks Dubee directly whether he believes Mac Dre's murder was part of a larger conspiracy. Dubee explains why he doesn't believe Dre was targeted simply because he was becoming a threat in the rap industry, while also making it clear that he has his own thoughts about what happened. Dubee reflects on what losing Mac Dre taught him about life, jealousy, hate, and realizing that nobody is untouchable. Later, when asked what he believes actually happened, Dubee draws a clear line: he won't speak publicly about rumors, street information, or anything he can't present as known fact.
