Dennis Boothby is a retired industrial work leader, Thornton Academy Class of 1974 graduate, and dedicated volunteer metal detector specialist from Maine. After studying at the University of Southern Maine and completing a remarkable 26-year career at Nichols Portland, LLC—with an incredible record of perfect attendance—Dennis turned a lifelong hobby into a mission of helping others.As a member of The Ring Finders of Maine, Dennis has recovered and returned more than 250 lost rings over the past three years. Using his own equipment, he searches Maine's beaches and parks, including Ogunquit, Old Orchard Beach, and York's Short Sands Beach, reuniting people with treasured family heirlooms they thought were gone forever.One of his most unforgettable recoveries was an 18K gold chain, jade Buddha pendant, and gold heart pendant that had been buried for an astonishing 18 years before being returned to its owner.An amputee who has experienced the generosity of others firsthand, Dennis sees every recovery as an opportunity to give back. He volunteers his time, asking only for a small transportation fee to help cover gas and tolls.
