Adoption Isn't Impact: Where Enterprise AI Coding Stalls | Nadeem Haider | Ep54
Today in the Sky Lounge, we are joined by Nadeem Haider, a software engineer and technical leader who spent nearly 20 years at Citrix. There he worked with the pioneers of multi-user Windows and eventually ran a global engineering org of 60 to 80 people. These days he's focused on how enterprise teams move from handing developers a Claude Code or Copilot license to actually delegating complete tasks to agents. Nadeem walks through the maturity levels he's charted along the way, starting with the trap at level zero, where teams count active users and assume adoption equals impact. He explains why a decades-old monolith with weak tests holds agents back. He argues that nobody can manually review every AI-generated line, so code review should be sorted by risk instead, and that project planning shifts from team capacity to agent allocation. He and Todd also get into PlanRite, the tool they've worked on together. Stay for the end, where a two-week break ends with a business class ticket to Sydney waiting in his inbox, and a lasting taste for fried eggs on hamburgers. ABOUT OUR GUEST: Nadeem is a partner at Silverback Software, where he is building Planwright, a SaaS platform for enabling the AI-accelerated software development lifecycle. It draws on years of lessons learned leading engineering teams that delivered enterprise products at web scale. Previously, he spent nearly 20 years at Citrix Systems, where he helped build the company’s app and server virtualization products XenApp, XenDesktop and XenServer, and was part of the teams that pioneered Microsoft Terminal Services and virtual desktops.
