Stay Risky with Astraea Rose

I believe there’s a lot of power in appearance. When you go to a hair stylist to get a trim or a new look, on the outside a lot of people will notice the difference. They might say something like “Who did your hair? It looks amazing!”. Of course those compliments do feel good, but what’s more important than physical appearance is how your new look makes you feel on the inside. Most people think about how others perceive them, but we need to spend more time loving ourselves so we can better express love for our friends, colleagues and family. In this podcast, we talk a lot about overcoming obstacles. Some people start their business and struggle with aspects of life like paying bills, taking care of their kids, or handling family situations that are out of our control. What is in our control though, is how we decide to take care of ourselves. Self love is something that has become more commonly talked about in the past few years, but for a long time in the business world, the mindset was to work yourself to the bone everyday, no excuses, and work will make you happy. We know that’s not the case. People in the workforce today are spending more time with family, taking care of themselves, and living their lives on their own terms. Our guest today believed in themselves and found their passion in the hair industry to help others feel more confident in themselves. This episode’s trailblazer shout out goes to Noble Coffeehttps://noble-coffee-and-tea.myshopify.com/The Stay Risky theme song "Figure Me Out" by JD EicherPodcast recording photos by Tyler MuirImages designed by Bram Epstein The Stay Risky Podcast is recorded at Engine Room Recording Company in Indianapolis, IN and brought to you by 40FI Creations.https://www.engineroomrecordingcompan...https://www.40ficreations.com

Stay Risky with Dee Annis (HI-FI/MOKB Presents)

Making a career in music is both amazing and terrifying at the same time. If you try to make it as a musician, I wish you the best of luck and may god have mercy on your soul. Between myself being a performer and running a company in the entertainment industry, I’ve experienced first hand the struggles both financially and mentally that go into chasing that dream. The reality is there are other opportunities to establish a career whether you’re a booking agent, stagehand, or box office attendant. There’s plenty of roles in the industry where you can still be part of the show and have a healthy career balance. The reason why I’m sharing my experience is because our guest today and I both have worked for the same company. MOKB Presents, a live event production company based in Indianapolis, was my first graphic design internship that helped shape everything that I do today with 40FI Creations. Working in the office helped me network and make connections with other designers, booking agents, and production managers that I still have relationships with to this day. Although our guest started working for the company years after I left, I can tell that she has the same drive and spirit that all the great people before her possessed in the day to day operations of the shows. She is a true music fan, and might hold the all time record for most concerts attended in the United States. Stay Risky with Kyle Buck

The phrase “Laughter is the best medicine” might sound corny and cliche, but it’s true. Before the film era, there were plenty of examples of comedy throughout history whether it was in plays, speeches, or public performances, but you had to be there in person to see it. Then in the late 1800’s, the first silent film movement introduced comedy to the big screen. Shortly after, an actor arose and made a career out of these types of films by the name of Charlie Chaplin. For those not familiar with his work, Chaplin was an actor in the early 1900’s who used physical movements and facial expressions to get the audience to laugh. At the time, these films had no sound, so the actors on screen had to rely on movements to convey the story’s plot. It didn’t matter if you spoke English, French, or Swahili, anyone watching those films could connect to the silliness on screen and share that moment of joy. These films are particularly important since at the time it was the beginning of World War I and the U.S. was dealing with the great depression. People needed an escape, something to look forward to, and for most people comedy was the only thing to keep their spirits high as they dealt with great adversity. The following 100 years brings us to where comedy is in society today: TV shows, films, stand up comedy, all help us get through our day to day lives and give us a break from the seriousness of life. Our guest is a stand up comedian, musician, and general badass that has put in the reps and dedicated his life to the art of being a true performer. This episode’s trailblazer shout out goes to the Tri County Beard and Mustache Societyhttps://tricountybms.weebly.com/The Stay Risky theme song "Figure Me Out" by JD EicherPodcast recording photos by Tyler MuirImages designed by Bram Epstein The Stay Risky Podcast is recorded at Engine Room Recording Company in Indianapolis, IN and brought to you by 40FI Creations.https://www.engineroomrecordingcompany.com/https://www.40ficreations.com

Stay Risky with Carrie Rector

In society, we’ve always looked up to leaders to help guide our paths in life. When the term “Leader” is used, most people think of business owners, politicians, athletes, or entertainers. But I think some of our most important leaders, are educators.Whether you were homeschooled or attended school, you had to learn about the world through the guidance of an adult. Someone who dedicated their lives to give you the tools to be successful. In my case, the person that’s responsible for my knowledge and technical success, I met in college. And since I went to a small school, I had 14 classes with her over the course of 4 years.I genuinely don’t think I’d be where I am today without her guidance, support, and dedication to her craft. She’s even inspired me to become an educator myself, as I’m currently teaching the same subject she taught me back when I was in school. Our guest today is an educator who is fearless, breaks stigmas in her field, and is a shining example of why educators deserve our respect and gratitude. This episode’s trailblazer shout out goes to the Girls Who CodeThe Stay Risky theme song "Figure Me Out" by JD EicherPodcast recording photos by Tyler MuirImages designed by Bram Epstein The Stay Risky Podcast is recorded at Engine Room Recording Company in Indianapolis, IN and brought to you by 40FI Creations.

Stay Risky with Darrin Snider

Are you old enough to remember what life was like before smartphones? If not, let me paint a picture for you. It’s Saturday morning in the year 2003 and you have the full day free to do whatever you want. You might start the morning off watching some cartoons, going outside for yard work, or hopping in the car to get your favorite fast food breakfast. While you went along with your day, you almost always had access to a radio. You could listen to music, catch a talk show like Bob and Tom, or dive into the weird world of AM radio. It was a DJ’s job to curate the top songs that you like and maintain a fun entertaining experience for the listener. Then in 2004, the portable digital audio playback device (in human terms, the IPod) offered the opportunity for the podcast industry to grow and for communities to come together over common interests. Our guest today, Mr. Darrin Snider, has been running Indy In-Tune radio for the past 17 years, blessing the airwaves with his sultry radio voice and playing the best music that Indianapolis has to offer. Stay Risky with Brandon and Anthony of Engine Room Recording Company

After 1945, developments in audio engineering and sound recording, coupled with the rapid growth of the music industry rendered the recording studio an important site of cultural production. In the 1940s, a typical recording session lasted three hours and yielded four songs; by the late 1960s, a single record might be pieced together from multiple performances over weeks and even months. Through the introduction of tape recording and the technological innovations that followed, the recording studio had been transformed from a functional worksite in which well-rehearsed performances were recorded on the spot, to a creative workplace in which the tools of recording became integral to the creative process itself. At the center of this transformation are the users of recording technology who were actively engaged in modifying, adapting, and pushing the capabilities of their equipment. As a site in which a diverse community of musicians, producers, and technicians come together to work toward a common goal, the recording studio forms an important nexus between culture and technology. Our guests today are Anthony and Brandon of the Engine Room Recording Company located in the Broadripple neighborhood of Indianapolis, IN. Links: WebsiteInstagramThis episode’s trailblazer shout out goes to the Big Brother Big SistersThe Stay Risky theme song "Figure Me Out" by JD EicherPodcast recording photos by Tyler MuirImages designed by Bram Epstein The Stay Risky Podcast is recorded at Engine Room Recording Company in Indianapolis, IN and brought to you by 40FI Creations.

Stay Risky with Steven Kim

Wanting to feel better is great. With Functional Fitness, though, it's especially easy to get carried away. But at the core (yes pun) it’s a community and one that many of us didn’t know we deserved or needed. Even if you're already fit, you can still improve your perception of stress and how you perform in it. Mr. Kim has taught so many that there’s a balance between our motivation and the effort we feel, which can be altered by anything from self-talk to caffeine. Physical limits are governed by the brain. With simple and consistent changes, we can alter those limits. We can take ownership of our lives and move forward. This week we got the opportunity to sit down the one and the only Steven Kim. So what makes an engineer valuable? Is it their years of experience? The equipment they have? Or is about the passion and drive that makes them obsess over every frequency, wavelength, and decibel.  For the past 8 years, our guest has produced some of the most sonically impressive recordings ranging from local hobbyists to major label bands, and is one of the hardest working people we’ve ever met.On this episode of Stay Risky we were able to sit down with the brilliant, Jackson Ward.Follow and support Jackson Ward: WebsiteYoutubeInstagramFacebookThis episode’s trailblazer shout out goes to the Cranborne AudioThe Stay Risky theme song "Figure Me Out" by JD EicherPodcast recording photos by Tyler MuirImages design by Bram Epstein The Stay Risky Podcast is recorded at Engine Room Recording Company in Indianapolis, IN and brought to you by 40FI Creations
