The 70-30 Rule That Makes You Better at Sales and Coaching

Have you ever heard of the 70-30 rule in coaching? The idea is simple: Your prospect or client should do about 70% of the talking, while you do about 30%. Some experienced coaches recommend speaking even less. In this episode, Justin explains why asking thoughtful questions can help you become a better coach and close more sales without feeling like you have to teach, pitch, or prove yourself throughout the conversation. You’ll learn how to: • Take the pressure off yourself during sales calls • Lead conversations by asking better questions • Move beyond surface-level answers • Help prospects understand the real cost of staying stuck • Stay present and listen with greater attention • Use your audience’s own questions to create relevant content Justin also shares several practical follow-up questions you can use to help prospects and clients think more deeply about where they are, what they want, and why solving the problem matters. How to Set Goals You’ll Actually Accomplish in Your Coaching Business

Are your goals clear enough to actually guide your decisions? In this episode of the Sales Strategies for Christian Coaches podcast, I’m talking about how to set business goals with greater specificity, clear deadlines, and practical accountability. Many coaches know how to help their clients define what they want, but sometimes we don’t apply that same discipline to our own businesses. I walk through several areas where clear goals matter, including revenue, impact, lifestyle, contribution, personal growth, and specific business milestones. I also share a simple framework we used recently at Christian Coaches Academy Live: “I will ______ by ______.” That simple sentence forces you to decide what you actually want to accomplish and when you intend to do it. I also share real examples of coaches who moved forward after putting a specific date around a long-standing goal, including leaving a job to build a coaching business and finally launching a podcast after talking about it for years. In this episode, you’ll learn how to: • Identify the goals that matter most over the next 12 months • Turn broad dreams into measurable commitments • Use deadlines to create focus and accountability • Break bigger goals into practical next steps • Keep your goals visible through writing, conversation, prayer, and planning A goal becomes much easier to act on when you can clearly answer two questions: What will I do? By when? Choose a few goals that matter, put a date beside them, and begin building the plan that gets you there. Ready to build a more consistent way to find and enroll the right coaching clients? Finding the Right Pace for Building a Sustainable Coaching Business

Are you building your business too slowly, waiting until everything feels perfectly ready? Or are you moving so fast that your business feels chaotic, scattered, and exhausting? In this episode of the Sales Strategies for Christian Coaches podcast, I’m sharing what it means to build at a peaceful pace. I learned this lesson through my own journey, from taking six years to earn my first $10,000 as a coach to building a multiple six-figure business with a more consistent and sustainable approach. We’ll talk about how to recognize when fear, over-preparation, or perfectionism are keeping you from meaningful action, as well as what happens when you try to pursue too many strategies at once. You’ll learn how to: • Recognize whether you need to speed up or slow down • Move from preparation into meaningful action • Simplify your sales and marketing strategy • Build consistent systems that support sustainable growth • Create a business that leaves room for your faith, family, and community • Discern the pace God may be calling you to in this season Sometimes building at a peaceful pace means having the courage to move faster. Other times, it means saying no, simplifying, and focusing on fewer things long enough to see them work. My hope is that this episode helps you step back, reflect, and ask a simple question: What needs to change so I can build this business at the right pace? Struggling to Trust God With Your Business? Do These 3 Things

Have you been struggling with doubt, anxiety, or uncertainty about your coaching business? Maybe you know God has called you to this work, but the results aren’t happening as quickly or consistently as you hoped. You’re praying, working, trying new strategies, and wondering what trusting God with your business growth is actually supposed to look like. In this episode of Sales Strategies for Christian Coaches , I’m sharing the three things I believe have to work together: Prayer. Surrender. Action. I talk about what I’ve experienced in my own business, including seasons when I’ve felt uncertain about what was next for Faith2Influence, and how spending more intentional time in prayer has changed the way I approach business decisions, sales, and growth. We’ll talk about: Why it’s okay to pray specifically for sales and business growth What surrender looks like when you still have goals and responsibilities Why surrender doesn’t mean becoming passive How to release your grip on outcomes while still doing your best work Why consistent action gives God opportunities to work through expected and unexpected paths How to evaluate where you may be getting stuck in prayer, surrender, or action Trusting God with your business doesn’t mean you stop learning, marketing, selling, networking, or having conversations. You pray. You surrender the outcomes. And you keep taking faithful, focused action. At the end of this episode, I also pray specifically for the Christian coaches, consultants, trainers, and entrepreneurs listening who are navigating fear, self-doubt, financial pressure, or uncertainty in their businesses. Simple Commitments, Big Results

Growing a coaching business can feel overwhelming when you’re trying to post everywhere, build an email list, create a lead magnet, start a podcast, write a book, and follow every new marketing strategy. But what if your business growth came down to one much smaller commitment? In this episode of Sales Strategies for Christian Coaches, I break down why consistently making your offer is one of the strongest indicators of whether your coaching business will grow. For many coaches, one to three sales conversations each week can create the clients, income, and impact they’ve been working toward. You’ll learn: • Why overwhelm often causes coaches to avoid the actions that matter most• How one sales conversation a week can create meaningful momentum• Why making 50 offers over the next year could transform your business• How a 90-minute weekly sales rhythm can support consistent growth• What different offer prices and monthly sales could mean for your annual revenue• How sales calls can become an expression of coaching, service, and your God-given mission You don’t need to do everything at once. You need a simple system you’re willing to follow consistently. If you want practical training on booking calls, leading sales conversations, presenting your offer, responding to objections, and closing with integrity, join us inside Christian Coaches Academy. A Better Way to Pursue What Matters with Dr. David H. Green

What does it look like to lead people through encouragement, service, and genuine care? In this episode of Sales Strategies for Christian Coaches , I’m talking with David H. Green about supportive leadership. David shares how his longtime relationship with the Ziglar family shaped his faith, priorities, and belief that great leadership begins by helping other people succeed. We discuss the Ziglar Wheel of Life, how to recognize areas that need attention, and why balance may look different in every season. David also walks us through several important questions that can help us determine whether a dream or goal is truly worth pursuing. In this conversation, you’ll learn: → How to identify the area of your life that needs your next step → Why your priorities may change during different seasons → How to determine whether a goal is truly yours → Five questions that can help you qualify a dream → Why emotional commitment matters when goals become difficult → How collaboration and community can help you move forward → A simple practice that can change how you see the people you lead David reminds us that leadership isn’t about controlling people from the top. It’s about supporting them, encouraging them, and finding genuine joy in their growth. How to Tell Stories That Connect with J. Loren Norris

Your audience doesn’t need your entire life story. They need a meaningful moment that helps them feel seen, recognize what’s possible, and understand why you may be the right person to help them move forward. In this episode of Sales Strategies for Christian Coaches , I’m joined by J. Loren Norris, founder of Story Power Academy and a speaker at Christian Coaches Academy Live 2026. J. Loren has coached government officials, entrepreneurs, and nonprofit leaders across five nations. In our conversation, he explains how storytelling can help coaches, speakers, authors, and Christian entrepreneurs communicate their credibility without relying on a long résumé or a list of qualifications. We discuss the difference between sharing a personal story for your own benefit and telling a story that genuinely serves the person listening. J. Loren also explains why the most useful stories are often built around a single recognizable moment rather than an entire personal journey. In this episode, you’ll learn: → Why a credential alone doesn’t establish credibility → How client stories can demonstrate your experience and process → Why your audience may not care about your story in the way you expect → How to help listeners recognize themselves in the stories you tell → The three wins created by a story that deeply connects → Why authenticity and shared values build trust → How to make your story a moment instead of a memoir → Why speakers and coaches need a collection of stories → How to develop storytelling as a flexible skill rather than memorizing one perfect story → How observation can help you choose the right story for the people in front of you One of my favorite ideas from this conversation is that you don’t need one perfect signature story. You need a growing collection of authentic moments and the ability to shape those moments for the audience you’re serving. A strong story gives people the context, clarity, and credibility they need to recognize that you understand where they are and may be able to help them reach where they want to go. Becoming A More Masterful Christian Coach

In this episode, I sit down with Brian Williams and Jonathan Armel of Two Master Coaches to talk about what it really looks like to coach clients at a deeper, more transformational level. Brian and Jonathan are both master certified coaches through the ICF, and they bring decades of experience helping coaches grow in presence, skill, awareness, and integrity. We talk about the difference between simply giving advice and truly coaching, why preparation matters before every call, and how Christian coaches can surrender the outcome while still serving clients with excellence. If you want to become the kind of coach who listens more deeply, asks better questions, and creates lasting transformation for your clients, this conversation will give you practical places to start. In this episode, we talk about: Brian’s journey from a difficult personal season into coaching and purpose Jonathan’s transition from high school teacher to coach trainer and mentor Why coaching at a masterful level requires both skill and surrender The importance of preparing your mind before a coaching call Why great coaches listen more than they talk How to ask questions that help clients gain deeper awareness The difference between coaching the “doing” and coaching the “being” Why the coach owns the process, but the client owns the destination How faith shapes the way Brian and Jonathan show up for their clients Their heart behind helping coaches create a greater impact Masterful coaching is not about having all the answers. It is about being present enough to listen deeply, ask the right next question, and trust God with the outcome.
