As Paul begins to land the plane in 1 Timothy, he comes back to the realization of false teachers. They create chaos and lead people astray, but 1 Timothy 6:2b-8 speaks of the contentment that Timothy and all believers are to have in Christ.
In the next section of the letter, Paul gives Timothy instructions for the whole church. He focuses specifically on a few subgroups within the church and how they are to be cared for. What we see in 1 Timothy 5:1-6:2 is the need to exercise proper discernment as we show hospitality.
As Paul continues his letter to Timothy, he has challenged him to lead the people to be committed to gospel training. In this week’s text (1 Timothy 4:9-16), Paul speaks to the difficulty of the training for Timothy and others. This difficulty is not lost on today’s culture and how we experience it. Join us this week to be encouraged to fight for the gospel.
Many of us recognize the need for growth in a physical and intellectual sense. We’ve experienced training with our jobs, schooling, and extra curriculars but what about spiritual training. As Paul writes to Timothy, he speaks to the need for gospel training in 1 Timothy 4:6-8.

As we continue in 1 Timothy, it is important for use to remember that none of these texts are isolated from the rest of the letter and the entirety of the Scriptures. 1 Timothy 2:8-15 tackles the roles of men and women within the context of God’s design. However, what is clear in our present culture and the context of this text is that sin has corrupted our interpretation and application of these roles.
Prayer is commonly talked about within the Christian life. It is often referred to as a spiritual discipline in which the Christian communicates with God. In this week’s text (1 Timothy 2:1-7), Paul tells Timothy to pray for all people. This can quickly lead us down a path of several questions such as how do I pray, are we really supposed to pray for all people, etc. Join us this Sunday as we tackle some of these questions and intentionally pray for everyone.
