Episode 121. How Exploring Different Paths Can Lead To Unexpected Opportunities in Your Career – Julia Robinson
Exploring different avenues and interests can help your personal growth but can help you develop in your current role and also transition to new sectors. I had the pleasure of talking with Julia Robinson, founder of Space in the City, about this, her move out of a successful legal career and so much more on Episode 121 of the Reframe & Reset Your Career podcast. In this episode, we will learn about: Managing the demands of working in the legal profession, How experiences even if outside your current industry can add value to your career, Seeing careers as long, evolving and multi stage, How to transition successfully into a new sector, Being open to exploring new opportunities, even if not considered before, Not being defined by your title and job, How to bounce back from setbacks, How physical movement can help you get unstuck, Building your personal brand and online presence, The benefits of a long form CV and How to future proof your career in the face of AI. Julia is an executive coach and business psychologist, and the founder of Space in the City, a coaching psychology practice based in the City of London and specialising in the legal sector. Julia has been a practising lawyer, she’s taught corporate law to over a thousand City lawyers, and she’s coached and developed many more in her professional development roles in BigLaw and Magic Circle law firms. She currently serves as Co-Vice Chair of the City of London Law Society’s training committee. Julia has an MSc in coaching psychology and is actively engaged in primary research including co-authoring an article in The Coaching Psychologist, a peer-reviewed British Psychological Society journal, on how trauma shows up in coaching and supervision. She is currently researching the experience of City law firm partners when they retire from the partnership and how they approach the next stage of their professional lives. Julia is also a coaching supervisor and, in this capacity, works internationally with coaches outside of the legal sector.
