Mary Ann Robbat, waking up inside of your life
Hello beautiful, welcome to another amazing episode of startup stories. In this conversation with Mary Ann Robbat we pursue "Am I living or Am I alive?" my absolute favourite kind of conversation. Life can look great - on paper. The job, house, kids, husband. You are a powerhouse, you get up, get things done, show up for your people, handle what needs handling, and keep the wheels turning. You have a life you worked hard to build. But if you are living disconnected from your heart, if you are just going through the motions while your soul yearns to be heard, you paying a high price of living a flat life. One that you "should" be grateful for, one that you "should" be happy in. Friend, even though you have it "made" it's ok to still want more. Because you donât create your life from your potential. You create your life from what your hidden patterns allow you to believe is possible. So why, in the middle of an ordinary day, can there still be this quiet feeling that something is missing? For Mary Ann Robbat, that question surfaced while she was raking leaves. Nothing dramatic was happening. There was no big crisis to point to, no obvious reason to be unhappy. She simply recognized that the life sheâd built on the outside didnât quite match what she was feeling on the inside. And she couldnât ignore it anymore. In this episode Mary Ann shares how that moment opened the door to a deeper relationship with herselfâand how the first step wasnât a grand reinvention. It was learning to say no. No to being the person everyone could count on to say yes. No to filling every available space on her calendar. No to moving through life so automatically that she couldnât hear her own intuition beneath everyone elseâs needs and expectations. That shift wasnât immediately comfortable. People were used to the old Mary Ann. But as she began making room for herself, she started hearing what she actually wanted, trusting the insights that came through, and discovering that saying no could make room for other people to do the same. We talk about the evolution of a 40-year marriage, too, and what it takes to keep choosing each other as you both change. You donât stop becoming a new version of yourself just because youâve been married for decades, raised a family, built a career, or reached the stage of life you once imagined would finally feel settled. And thatâs the part I want the everyday woman to hear. You can love your family and want more room to be yourself. You can appreciate what youâve built and still feel a pull toward something you canât quite name. You can be the capable one, the reliable one, the one who keeps everything movingâand realize youâve gotten so good at responding to life that you havenât stopped to ask what you want your life to feel like. That doesnât make you ungrateful. It makes you a woman worth listening to. Mary Annâs work now helps people recognize the patternsâlike people-pleasingâthat can keep them from living more intentionally. And our conversation is a reminder that fulfillment isnât something you finally achieve once the house is in order, everyone else is taken care of, or youâve figured out the rest of your life. You donât have to walk away from the life youâve built to make room for the woman living it. If youâve ever looked around at a life that seems perfectly fine on paper and wondered why youâre longing for something more, this conversation is for you.
