How to Turn Your Art Dreams into Reality (Simple Planning for Artists)

Someday I’ll do a solo show. Someday I’ll enter that prize. Someday I’ll launch my website. Sound familiar? In this solo episode of Paint Rest Repeat, I’m talking about how to turn your art dream into reality, and why the thing that’s missing usually isn’t talent, time or capability. It’s structure. If you’ve ever worried that getting organised will squash your creativity, I’m making the case for the exact opposite. We talk about why so many art dreams quietly stall, what a wisteria vine can teach you about your art business, and four simple habits that turn one big dream into small, doable steps. I also share how structure (and a very good friend) got me through a one-off makers market that landed right in the busiest month of my year. Whether you paint purely for joy, you’re dreaming of your first sale, or you’re growing an established art business, you’ll walk away with a 10-minute next step you can take this week. How Art Helps Us Find Ourselves with Amy Kim

What if painting isn't only something you do, but the way you find your way back to yourself? In this episode of Paint Rest Repeat, I'm joined by artist Amy Kim for a heartfelt conversation about identity, motherhood, letting go of control, and being yourself in your art. Amy studied art more than twenty years ago, then stepped away. She was convinced she wasn't creative enough or brave enough to be an artist. After years of design, teaching and raising her daughters, she realised she no longer knew who she was. Painting became her way back. We talk about how her structured art education in Korea shaped her once hard-edged style, why she's now learning to paint more intuitively, and the series about her grandmother that revealed what she'd been carrying all along. Amy also shares the story behind her upcoming group exhibition, 'Being', and why real-life connection between artists and audiences matters so much. If you've ever lost touch with yourself, or wondered whether your art is "good enough", this conversation is a gentle reminder that being you is exactly what makes your work connect. How I Started to Sell My Art (Part 2 of 2)

If you caught the last episode, you'll know it was all about what actually worked when I first started selling my art. This time, I'm sharing the other side: what didn't. In this solo episode, I'm walking through 5 mistakes I made when first starting out. None of them happened because I wasn't committed enough. They happened because nobody showed me the potholes before I drove straight into them, and because these mistakes are sneaky — they don't feel like mistakes while you're making them. If you're making some sales but it all feels a bit chaotic behind the scenes, or you're just beginning and want to skip a couple of years of unnecessary struggle, this episode hands you the shortcuts I had to learn the long way. How I Started to Sell My Art (Part 1 of 2)

How did I actually start selling my art and what would I do differently if I were starting today? In this solo episode, I'm taking you back to my very first art sale (spoiler: it was my mum), and sharing openly about everything I tried in the early days — a pricey and pointless Etsy shop, garage-sale-style markets, boosted Instagram posts with no strategy, and art competitions that weren't even a good fit. More importantly, I'm sharing the five things I wish I'd prioritised from the beginning: my vision, my style, my story, my people, and my invitation. These are the fundamentals that actually move the needle, whether you're waiting for your first sale or you've already made many. If you want to sell more art without falling into the overwhelm of endless advice and shiny tactics, this episode is for you. From Open Studios to Art Career with Kelly Kondis

In this episode, I’m joined by atmospheric landscape painter Kelly Kondis to talk about building an art career, finding your artistic voice, and taking your work more seriously. Kelly paints misty, layered landscapes inspired by the Sherbrooke rainforest in the Dandenong Ranges — work that captures atmosphere, feeling, light, cloud and place without being tied to one specific location. We talk about Kelly’s shift from abstract painting into atmospheric landscapes, how lockdown gave her the time to paint more consistently, and the moment she applied for Dandenong Ranges Open Studios and began to feel her work being taken seriously. Kelly also shares what art prizes, exhibitions, galleries and online platforms have taught her about building momentum as an artist — and why there are many different ways to create a sustainable art career. If you’re an artist who wants to move from hobby into sales, or you’re craving a more grounded and flexible path into professional art practice, this conversation will feel like a deep breath. Starting Later as an artist with Bridie O'Brien

What if starting later as an artist isn’t a disadvantage but the very thing that gives your work its depth, confidence and clarity? In this episode of Paint Rest Repeat, I’m joined by artist Bridie O’Brien for a beautiful conversation about creative timing, self-belief, and what happens when art patiently waits in the background until you’re ready. Bridie shares how painting was always present in her life, even while music, travel and performance took centre stage. We talk about the turning point of 2020, the confidence that came from decades of creative experience, and why she believes those earlier chapters made her a bolder, more decisive artist. If you’ve ever wondered whether you’ve left it too late, this episode is a powerful reminder that nothing in your creative life is wasted. What Artists Really Need and the Story Behind Art for the Heart

Today’s episode is a little different. Ros takes you behind the scenes of Art for the Heart - what it is, why it began, how it has evolved over the years, and the thinking behind its newest chapter. She is joined by Bec from Short and Sweet Art, a Canberra-based artist, long-time Art for the Heart member, and much-loved part of the support team inside the community. Together, Ros and Bec chat about what artists really need when they are trying to stay connected to their art, why community matters so much, and how Art for the Heart has grown from online art workshops into a warm, supportive membership for artists who want creativity, accountability, encouragement and practical support. If you’ve ever felt like making art can be lonely, overwhelming, or hard to prioritise, this episode is a beautiful reminder that you don’t have to do it alone. Trusting the Creative Process as an Artist with Abbie White

In this episode of Paint Rest Repeat, I’m joined by abstract painter Abbie White for a beautiful conversation about art, grief, resilience, family, and learning to trust your own creative voice. Abbie paints on raw canvas using acrylics to create soft, dreamy, watercolour-like works that feel calm, nostalgic and deeply emotional. In this conversation, she shares how painting became a way to process the loss of both her parents, how her mum’s influence continues to shape her work, and how her creative practice helped her move through a challenging season in her family life. We also talk about art fairs, rejection, entering prizes, connecting with collectors, and why artists need to spend less time looking outward and more time looking inward. If you’ve ever felt pressure to rush your style, compare yourself to other artists, or question whether your work is “enough”, this conversation is a gentle reminder to trust your own path. Making Art for Process, Product and Possibility with Jac P

What happens when art begins as a place to breathe, but slowly becomes something other people want to buy, collect, and display? In Episode 117 of Paint Rest Repeat, Ros Gervay is joined by intuitive artist Jac P who shares how she came back to art as an adult through curiosity, wellbeing, and courage — not with a big polished plan, but by following the next step. Together, Ros and Jac explore the difference between making art for the process and making art for the product, as well as self-doubt, comparison, commissions, galleries, community, and staying connected to the reason you create in the first place. This episode is for any artist who has ever wondered whether their art needs to be more strategic, more sellable, or more serious before they are allowed to claim it.
