Ep. 6 - Completed the LLPS & Your Client is Ghosting? Proven Methods to Resolve Payment Problems

Getting paid is crucial yet often challenging for estate planning attorneys. In this coaching call excerpt, expert lawyer Ali guides fellow attorney Emily through a dilemma with an unresponsive client who already paid but refuses to proceed with the full plan.Emily completed a planning session and designed a full estate plan for this client who struggles financially. Despite verbally agreeing to move forward, the client went silent and ignored Emily’s repeated calls and messages about payment and next steps.Ali suggests Emily send a written notice giving the client a clear deadline to communicate or Emily will close the file and invoice $750 for the completed LLPS. Ali provides sample scripts Emily can use to demonstrate care while also setting a boundary.Ali explains that auto-debit payment options avoid chasing clients for money. She notes boundaries show the client’s best interests are in mind, and lawyers shouldn’t absorb losses from unpaid work. Resolving payment problems this way both empowers lawyers to earn fair fees and enables quality planning for clients.By implementing Ali’s proven payment systems and scripts, lawyers can confidently get paid, avoid income leaks, and sustain a profitable law practice long-term.

Episode 5: How Taylor went from almost giving up on entrepreneurship to having her best month ever with a record $23,900 month

About a month ago, Taylor was about to give up on entrepreneurship and take a salaried position with a firm. In this episode, she comes back to give us an update on how she's turned it around. She's stopped discounting out of a place of fear, and she's valuing herself and the EP service she provides. After her conversation with Ali, she realized that the time debt to her family was a very real consequence of discounting and she chose to commit to her 4 kids.Remember, anytime you're going to your next level, life will test you. So know that these tests are coming. The universe wants to know how serious you really are about claiming the life you want. Are you going to SHOW UP or are you going to go back to the safety net?You can go back to that old life. But if you want something more, you must step forward. This test of insecurity is actually a sign that you're on the brink of a new era. If Taylor was able to make this shift, you can too :)HOST: Ali Katz

Episode 4: If you're uncomfortable charging premium fees, listen to this 10 times

Ky was not feeling confident charging premium fees and wanted tips on how to do it.Ali shares the answer: PRACTICE. It WILL be uncomfortable to talk about money until you practice and get used to it - expect it to be like this! If you relate to Ky and still feel a bit awkward or uncomfortable quoting premium fees, you’ll definitely want to tune into this episode. It takes a reason bigger than yourself to do this. You’ve got to understand why Ali structured it the way she did. She structured it this way on purpose! Because the truth is that you have to charge premium fees in order to deliver on what you’re promising. Ali breaks down all the bits and pieces of what you’re providing and drives home that you can not do these things if you’re not being paid properly. And, it has to be done this way so that you can have a LIFE. If you don’t put your oxygen mask on first, you’re not going to be able to serve your clients well.Realize also, that charging full price is actually in your client’s best interest. You’ve gotta get out of your own way and realize that you’re doing it FOR THEM. Listen and re-listen to this episode as many times as you need to anchor in why premium prices are necessary for your clients to have a plan that works. And then go practice. Practice, practice, practice! HOST: Ali Katz

Episode 3: How to get over the fear of making a mistake on your client's Estate Plan

Or worse, what if you don’t even know you’ve made mistakes and they resurface in the future? Do you have this fear? Is it creating anxiety in you and getting in the way of building your practice? Do you truly just want to do the best you can because you care about your clients? If so, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Making mistakes is a common concern, and it can be paralyzing.Listen in as Mandy shares her own worst-case scenario of potential mistakes “ruining her reputation, people thinking she's the worst lawyer, blasting her on social media, never hiring her again, having to get a new job, all while being completely overwhelmed and dealing with remedying the mistake.”In this episode, you’ll learn how to do the best you can until you know better. When you know better, you do better. Just like experts in ANY other profession once practiced a “certain way”, there came a time when they learned something new and then they practiced in that “new way.” Lawyering is no different. You learn, you grow, you do the best you can with the information you have. But for real, what if you did make a mistake? This episode is for you!HOST: Allison Osborn

Episode 2: Why you are a better choice for your clients then a 30 year seasoned EP attorney

Amanda did her homework and utilized the curiosity questions and then further deepened her knowledge while she was in learning mode and brought her experiences back to the community. Her experiences included the following:-  My attorney said statements including "I am all set and I don't need to update documents"-  A real commitment from clients to be doing "patchwork" estate planning. In this episode, a major issue is highlighted: in the event of incapacity or death, their family is going to be completely lost. But how do you both recognize such a major issue a client is facing AND follow up? What are the specific set of questions to ask? How do you not sound "salesy"? This work is not for the faint of heart and laying out this issue in the context of your client's families is key. In this episode, Ali dives into how to use this lock and key.Another juicy bite in this episode is the imagery Ali describes of an attorney who has been doing EP for 30 years.. .which was focused on documents and templates, really before the technology that exists today. As technology has come online, we see where plans fail. And they don't need to fail. This episode highlights the critical importance of what you, as Personal Family Lawyers, are doing differently. The critical importance of why you, as a brand new attorney to the field are a better choice than somebody who has been doing it for 30 years.HOST: Ali Katz

Episode 1: What to do when you're struggling to believe in yourself

Pam believed in the model, but was having a hard time believing in herself. No one else in her area practiced this way. She felt like a swan among ugly ducklings and she was freezing because she felt so different. There was also the logistical piece of believing that she can actually deliver on plans and she was also failing to create sense of urgency for people to come in and do their estate planning. This was partially due to a lack of confidence and partially due to the fact that she didn’t have financial urgency herself. She wanted to be contributing to her family financially, but she did have to. In this kind of situation, your WHY is super important and it needs to be anchored in daily. If you don’t believe in yourself and your services, nobody else will.HOST: Ali Katz
