About the show

Brought to you by Under His Wings—a nonprofit with nearly 15 years of experience investing in the personal, spiritual, and professional development of young women. At Listen In Love, we bridge the gap between generations through honest conversations about the issues shaping young women today. We believe there is profound value in bringing together the wisdom of women who have walked before us and the voices of young women navigating today's world. Rooted in biblical truth and guided by real-life experience, each conversation invites listeners to learn from mentors, ask hard questions, and explore what it means to live with faith, purpose, and conviction. Here, wisdom is shared, stories are honored, and relationships are strengthened as we listen in love to one another. Through thoughtful conversations grounded in faith, we seek to encourage lives marked by resilience, character, and hope. This is more than a podcast. It's an invitation to grow in wisdom, deepen your faith, and pursue a life that's not just happier, but holier. Invest in the mission. Help shape the next generation of biblical women. Building Grit as a Young Lady: What Actually Separates Quitters, Campers, and Climbers

You can't control what happens to you. Job loss, a friendship that ends, a diagnosis, a season that just won't let up, but you can control how you respond. That response has a name: your Adversity Quotient, and it might be the single biggest factor in whether you come out of a hard season stronger or stay stuck. In this conversation, we break down the Adversity Quotient (AQ) — a framework developed by Dr. Paul Stoltz that measures how much control you believe you have over a hard situation, whether you take ownership of your response, how far you let it bleed into other areas of your life, and how long you expect it to last. We talk through Stoltz's three types of people facing adversity: quitters, who walk away; campers, who make some progress and then settle; and climbers, who keep moving even when it's slow. And we ask the harder question underneath all of it: where does faith fit into resilience, and what does it look like to persevere with grace? This matters because every teen girl and young woman listening is somewhere on that mountain right now, whether or not she has language for it. So is every parent watching a daughter go quiet, every mentor trying to know when to push and when to let someone rest, every family navigating a hard season together. Understanding AQ gives you a way to name what's happening instead of just feeling stuck in it and a way to talk about it with the young woman in your life instead of guessing. By the end of this episode, you'll walk away with a clearer picture of where you tend to land when adversity shows up, why “stopping” isn't always the same as “quitting,” how ownership and perspective change the way hardship affects you long-term, and what it means to let your faith carry the weight your own strength can’t. You'll also hear a personal story about how a teenage scholarship essay turned into a lifelong lesson about what adversity is actually for. Under His Wings Gulf Coast exists because young women deserve more than surface-level encouragement: they deserve real tools for real life, grounded in both research and their identity in Christ. This conversation is part of our ongoing Self-Worth Series, built from over 15 years of walking alongside girls and young women through exactly these seasons. Watch or listen to the full episode, and if you know a young woman or a parent who's in a hard season right now, send this their way. Emotional Intelligence in an AI World: How to Build Self-Worth, Healthy Relationships & Emotional Maturity

What happens to our emotional intelligence when AI becomes part of the way we communicate, make decisions, and navigate relationships? In this episode of Listen In Love: What Every Young Woman Needs to Know , Under His Wings Gulf Coast explores emotional intelligence (EQ/EI), self-worth, healthy relationships, and emotional maturity in an increasingly digital and AI-driven world. Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize and manage our own emotions while understanding and responding appropriately to the emotions of others. For young women, developing emotional intelligence can shape friendships, family relationships, future workplaces, conflict resolution, communication, and overall personal growth. We discuss why AI cannot replace genuine human connection , how emotional intelligence helps us understand what may be happening behind someone's behavior , and why learning to regulate our emotions can prevent hurt feelings from becoming anger, division, or offense. You'll also hear practical ways to strengthen emotional intelligence in everyday life, including: • Practicing self-awareness and emotional regulation • Listening instead of making assumptions • Asking thoughtful questions • Learning to apologize and forgive • Celebrating others without comparison • Practicing wisdom and discernment online • Using AI responsibly when navigating relationships • Seeking God, parents, mentors, and trusted friends for wisdom • Remembering that every person is made in the image of God Most importantly, we explore Christian emotional intelligence through the lens of Scripture. Emotional maturity isn't simply about becoming a better communicator—it is about learning to love God and love others well. As artificial intelligence becomes more influential in the lives of Gen Z and Gen Alpha, the ability to build authentic relationships, practice empathy, communicate wisely, and show grace will only become more important. This episode is for teen girls, young women, parents, mentors, educators, youth leaders, and anyone investing in the next generation. 🎧 Listen to Listen In Love: What Every Young Woman Needs to Know for Christ-centered conversations about self-worth, relationships, personal development, faith, and growing into the woman God created you to be. Christian Modesty Explained: Identity, Confidence & Style

What does biblical modesty really mean—and is it about more than just clothing? In this episode, we sit down with Annie , a young leader and member of the SLB (Student Leadership Board), to talk about Christian modesty, identity in Christ, leadership, and living out your faith with confidence . Annie shares about her passion project—starting a community run club —and what she has learned about discipline, leadership, and serving others . She also shares about a topic needed in Christian spaces: modesty . Instead of focusing on rules or shame, Annie reframes modesty as something deeper: a heart posture toward God that flows from our identity as His sons and daughters. In this conversation we discuss: • Why modesty conversations often miss the heart • Why modesty isn’t just for women—it’s for men too • How identity in Christ shapes how we dress, speak, and carry ourselves • Navigating the pressure of being labeled “too churchy” • Practical ways to pursue modesty while still being stylish, confident, and authentic • Why modesty should be rooted in freedom and love, not obligation If you’re a young Christian navigating faith, culture, and identity , this episode will encourage you to pursue obedience to God with grace instead of perfection . A Generational Bridge: Why Mentorship Actually Works

I Want to Be A Mentor! I Want to Be Mentored In this episode, we explore the power of mentorship—and why it remains one of the most effective ways to build confidence, character, and self-worth in young women. Through honest conversation and lived experience, we show how mentorship isn’t just helpful—it’s transformational. Hosted by leaders from Under His Wings Gulf Coast , this discussion unpacks why creating intentional mentoring environments is critical for families, churches, and communities. We also share how Under His Wings is actively building spaces where mentorship can flourish, with a vision to expand into churches and broader community settings. This episode is structured around generational perspective: Arcelia , speaking as a parent and mentor, shares what it looks like to support young women without overstepping, how mentoring grew her own confidence, and why obedience—not perfection—qualified her to step in. Kimberly offers the perspective of a young woman who was being mentored before she even realized she needed it—learning firsthand that strength doesn’t mean isolation, and that God works powerfully through relationships and humility. Together, they discuss: What mentorship really is (and what it isn’t) How mentorship helps young women understand their value and purpose Why mentorship is biblical, not just cultural What makes a healthy mentor-mentee relationship What to do if mentorship feels awkward or imperfect at first How mentorship looks different across ages, seasons, and roles We also highlight that mentorship doesn’t always have to be formal. Teens mentor middle schoolers. Adults mentor younger women. Sometimes it’s structured, sometimes it’s a conversation over coffee, but it’s always relational. If you’ve ever thought, “I don’t know enough to mentor” or “I wish I had someone like that,” this episode is for you. 👉 Interested in learning more? Fresh Fruit: How God Grows A Ministry

In this episode, we invite you to come and see what God is doing through Under His Wings Gulf Coast . What began with one clear calling has grown into multiple programs designed to meet the real, evolving needs of young women and families in our community. This conversation centers on growth, vision, and obedience, how listening to God and to the voices of those we serve has led to expansion without losing the heart of the mission. From residential care at Courage Home to leadership development, mentorship, counseling, and pro-active initiatives like G.L.E.A.N., we explore how each new branch has been a response to need, not a departure from purpose. We’ll talk about: The original “why” behind Under His Wings and who it was created to serve The unchanging core values of faith, healing, restoration, and self-worth Why self-worth is foundational for young women and why so many aren’t receiving it in our communities How growth happens intentionally when God is at work What makes this model different from traditional approaches What’s ahead, what we’re praying for, and what excites us most about the future! This episode is both a reflection and an invitation, to witness fresh fruit, to celebrate what God is growing, and to consider how churches, partners, and community members can join in the mission. Because growth doesn’t mean losing the heart, it means expanding it.
