Covering Greatness: Decades of Sports, Leadership, and Winning

Leadership Lessons from Legendary Coaches What does it take to build a winning culture, sustain excellence, and leave a lasting legacy? On this episode of the Lauer Leadership Network Podcast , I sit down with longtime sports writers and Black Diamond Sports Network play-by-play broadcasters David Fegley and Brian Christiana . Both serve on local Hall of Fame committees and have spent years covering some of the most successful athletic programs and coaches in Pennsylvania. David brings an incredible perspective, having attended 418 consecutive Southern Columbia football games without missing a game since 1997! Together, we explore the leadership philosophies, winning cultures, and lasting impact of legendary Southern Columbia football coach Jim Roth, Lourdes girls basketball coach Mike Klembara, and Brian tells stories of UCLA coach Bob Chesney - An Our Lady Of Lourdes Alum and current UCLA Football coach. What makes these coaches different? How do they establish standards, develop athletes, earn respect, and sustain success year after year? Through decades of firsthand observations, David and Brian share stories and insights about the qualities that separate good coaches from truly great leaders. This episode is about much more than football and basketball. It's about consistency, preparation, accountability, relationships, and building a culture where excellence becomes the expectation. Whether you're leading a team, running a business, coaching young athletes, or raising a family, there are valuable lessons to take away from those who have spent their careers covering greatness. From Treatment Court to Attorney

In this episode, I sit down with Abbey Geffken, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Association of Treatment Court Professionals, and Jessica Miraglia, whose story is a powerful example of what treatment courts can make possible. Jessica was once a participant in treatment court. Today, she is an attorney. We talk about Jessica's journey, the challenges she faced, the people and programs that helped her move forward, and why treatment courts can change the trajectory of a person's life. This conversation is about more than treatment courts. It's about redemption, opportunity, and refusing to define someone forever by the lowest point in their life.

Coal Region Pride- Episode 40

In this episode, we sit down with Greg Sacavage, the Mayor of Kulpmont, and one of the most respected and knowledgeable advocates for the Shamokin–Mount Carmel region. Greg's story is built on grit, discipline, and service. A former standout wrestler at Bloomsburg University and an All-State linebacker, he carried a competitor's mindset into leadership roles off the field — serving as Athletic Director at Mount Carmel Area High School and now as Chairman of Central Susquehanna Opportunities. A major focus of this conversation is Mount Carmel pride — and why this small coal-region community continues to produce outsized leaders, innovators, and winners. Greg speaks passionately about the culture, toughness, and work ethic that define the area, highlighting influential figures who came from Mount Carmel and surrounding communities, including Brett Veach, Bobby Chesney, Stanley Kovaleski, and Len Eshmont. Greg explains why these success stories aren't accidents — they are the result of strong values, accountability, competitive sports, and a community that expects people to work hard, lead, and give back. He also shares why Shamokin and Mount Carmel continue to matter, how community pride fuels revitalization, and what it takes to build lasting impact in towns that shaped generations of resilient leaders. This episode is about legacy, identity, and leadership — proving that where you come from doesn't limit you; it prepares you.
