A former professional photographer to a celebrated author - Kim Gottlieb-Walker
I had a wonderful conversation with Kim. She has a great sense of humor and I love it. She is now in her 70s and still moving around and being productive. Get ready to be inspired by the incredible career of Kim Gottlieb-Walker! Her lens captured everything from the vibrant energy of '60s and '70s rock, reggae, and political movements to the magic of blockbuster movies and hit TV shows. Even while studying at UCLA and shortly after, she was snapping photos for underground LA publications like Crawdaddy and Music World. But that's not all! She was the official stills photographer for iconic John Carpenter films such as Halloween, The Fog, Christine, and Escape from New York. For nine years, she was the go-to production photographer at Paramount Pictures for the legendary sitcoms Cheers, and then spent five years doing the same for Family Ties. On top of all that, Kim dedicated three decades to advocating for still photographers as an elected representative on the National Executive Board of IATSE Local 600, the International Cinematographers Guild. Talk about a powerhouse! This talented entrepreneur has graced us with stunning coffee-table photo books like "Bob Marley and the Golden Age of Reggae" and "On Set with John Carpenter," both published by Titan Press (UK) and distributed by Random House (USA). These beauties are so popular, they've gone through multiple printings and have even been translated into Japanese, Russian, and French! You might have even caught her captivating gallery shows in London, Los Angeles, and New York. And that's not all! Her debut novel, "LENSWOMAN IN LOVE - a novel of the 1960s & ‘70s," has snagged over a dozen literary awards, including "Best Debut" and "Novel of the Year." Plus, keep an eye out for her upcoming historical novel, "CATERINA BY MOONLIGHT," which whisks you away to Renaissance Florence in the late 15th century. Her evocative short story, "Summer of Love – 1967," is also featured in the acclaimed anthology "FEISTY DEEDS."Feel free to reach out to her directly at Kim’s websites are: www.Lenswoman.com for an overview of her photographic historyand www.TheRenaissanceWoman.net, which can also be found through www.KimGottliebWalker.com - her author website. She can also be found on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/KimGottliebWalker/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lenswoman/Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/gottliebwalker/_boards/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kimgottliebwalker/?hl=enSubstack: https://kimgottliebwalker.substack.com/Thank you for listening to and supporting the podcast.
