At 19 years old, pregnant with twins and facing federal prison, a young mother found herself in a situation that seemed almost hopeless. Then she showed up unexpectedly at the doorstep of Love and SONshine Ministries—and her story took a remarkable turn. Today, that same mother has been reunited with her children, is pursuing her education, and is helping other women navigate the challenges she once faced. In this powerful conversation, Partners in Ministry host Dan Smith speaks with Heather Petty, co-founder and executive director of Love and SONshine Ministries in Billings, Montana. Through its SONshine Home and Heritage Home, this Christian nonprofit provides residential support, discipleship, education, mentorship, and practical assistance to young mothers and children experiencing homelessness and difficult circumstances. Many of the women served have experienced poverty, abuse, exploitation, neglect, or substance use. Heather shares how faith in Jesus Christ, compassionate relationships, and consistent support can help women discover their identity in Christ and begin breaking destructive cycles. But ministry isn't without heartbreak. Heather also opens up about the loss of a baby, struggles with relapse, and the ongoing need for prayer and encouragement. Some young athletes arrive at sports camp determined to win—but leave understanding that Jesus matters more than any victory. Discover how Fellowship of Christian Athletes is using sports, mentorship, and biblical discipleship to introduce young people to Christ and build a faith that can last a lifetime. Ben Schmidt, Area Director for Northeast Iowa Fellowship of Christian Athletes, shares how FCA camps are combining athletic development, meaningful relationships, biblical teaching, worship, and prayer to help young people grow both on and off the field. From multi-sport camps and leadership programs to discipleship experiences and all-abilities camps, FCA is creating opportunities for young people of different ages and abilities to encounter the Gospel and develop a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. Most people assume Bible education during the public school day is impossible. But LifeWise Academy is helping communities provide students with Bible instruction during school hours through a released-time religious instruction model that operates off school property, is privately funded, and requires parental permission. Sarah Buzynski, Iowa State Director for LifeWise Academy, joins Dan Smith on Partners in Ministry to explain how the program works and why she believes reaching the next generation with the Word of God matters. Sarah also shares a moving story about a young student whose father had recently passed away. After teachers and volunteers gave him a book to help him through grief, she witnessed something deeper than a classroom lesson—a child recognizing that people genuinely cared for him during one of the hardest seasons of his life. With 326 school districts in Iowa, Sarah shares a vision of eventually giving every student in the state the opportunity to receive Bible education as part of their school day. Her immediate goal is helping LifeWise serve its first 200 Iowa schools over the next two years while activating local churches and community leaders. A MIRACLE Happened When They Refused to Give Up on This Teen

He fought another student, threw rocks, damaged a staff member’s vehicle, and eventually faced the court system. But the people caring for him made a decision that would shape far more than one difficult season: they would not give up on him. Chestnut Mountain Ranch is a Christ-centered home and school in Morgantown, West Virginia, serving at-risk middle and high school boys who have often experienced trauma, abuse, neglect, family instability, and destructive choices. Its mission extends beyond changing a student’s behavior—the ministry works with the entire family through counseling, relationships, education, outdoor experiences, and long-term support. Program Manager Bradley Cloud Filter shares the story of one young man whose anger and destructive behavior could easily have ended his time at the Ranch. Instead, consistent love, accountability, discipleship, and even time spent fly fishing helped break down barriers. Bradley remembers seeing something new in the young man while standing in a stream: peace. That young man eventually came to Christ. His mother and father came to Christ. His siblings came to Christ. Years later, the family remains involved in a local church. Children Were Dying for Lack of Clean Water—So This Ministry Went Did Something LIFE CHANGING

When pastors in Guatemala said their children were dying for lack of clean water, a simple water project became something much bigger. Living Water World Missions is a Christian nonprofit ministry installing sustainable water purification systems in communities in need while working alongside local churches to build relationships, strengthen communities, and share the good news of Jesus Christ. The ministry describes its approach as meeting physical needs while creating opportunities for lasting spiritual and social impact. Board member Tom McDonald explains why their model goes beyond installing equipment. Local ministry partners help prepare each site, work alongside installation teams, learn to operate and maintain the systems, and receive continued support after installation. That partnership model is designed to create sustainability rather than a one-time mission project. The work also includes water education, relationships with schools and communities, prayer and encouragement, and opportunities for local churches to share the gospel. Will This Change Foster Care Forever?

Some children enter foster care on one of the most frightening days of their lives, unsure where they will sleep, whether they will stay with their siblings, or what their family’s future will look like. And there simply aren’t enough families ready to receive them. The Table Project believes the Church can help change that. Executive Director Angela “AJ” Doyle shares how the organization is helping believers discern whether God may be calling their family into foster care—and providing a new gospel-centered pathway for families who choose to take that step. The Table Project has worked alongside state partners in Iowa to provide pre-licensure foster care training through a Christian framework, helping families understand foster care not simply as charity, but as a response to God’s love and His call to care for vulnerable people. AJ also shares how an unexpected change in Iowa’s foster care licensing process opened a door at exactly the right time, allowing the ministry to help bring the Church back toward the front lines of foster care. How Taking a Step Back Can Propel You Forward

What happens when a church decides that its normal schedule is no longer enough? Kingdom Faith Fellowship Church in Milwaukee has spent months intentionally seeking God for revival, suspending regular services and creating extended spaces for prayer at 5 a.m., noon, before services, and during gatherings. Pastor Dr. Robert Randolph says the result has been something far more important than simply growing a ministry: people are coming with questions about salvation, asking to be baptized, and experiencing genuine spiritual transformation. His wife, Aliya Randolph, has also witnessed a powerful change among the men of the church. Men are opening up, asking deeper questions, crying out to God in prayer, and allowing that transformation to affect their marriages and families. Kingdom Faith Fellowship has served Milwaukee for approximately 18 years through church ministry and community outreach, including early childhood programs, elementary education, resource centers, prenatal support, and Matthew 25-inspired service to people in need. The ministry has also recently purchased a 16-acre property and is developing plans that begin with 101 senior housing units and future memory care. She Earned Her Place in School. So Why Couldn't She Go?

Joy had earned a place in a good school in Kenya—but she couldn't begin her education because her family lacked the resources to send her. Instead of attending class, she spent her days beside her mother, who sells fish near an army barracks. Then someone noticed her situation, reached out for help, and Quaker Peace Initiatives became part of her story. After verifying her need and working with the school, the ministry helped Joy return to the classroom. She later came back with tears in her eyes, grateful to God that she was finally in school and determined to compete alongside students who had started before her. Hannington, Country Programs Manager for Quaker Peace Initiatives in Kenya, shares how this faith-driven organization serves underserved communities through education support, scholarships, life-skills development, trauma and grief support, peacebuilding, and partnership with disadvantaged families. But Joy's story also reveals an urgent challenge: keeping children in school when scholarship resources are limited. Hannington's prayer is that none of the children already being supported will be forced to drop out because funding disappears.
