My hope is that each episode is a little burst of light into your week. I believe in your potential. I believe each of us is special and unique. Why Is the World Falling Apart And What Can One Person Actually Do About It? (354)

Species are vanishing, oceans are turning hostile, and people feel more alone than ever. In today's episode, I look at what's really happening in the natural world and in us. Plus: a short break announcement. New episodes return mid-to-late September. Things covered in this episode; Q: Why are there more shark attacks and whale-boat incidents lately? A: Marine biologists point to shifting migration patterns, warmer waters, and in orcas' case, possible learned behaviour spreading between pods, a sign of ecosystems under stress rather than random chance. Q: Is loneliness actually getting worse? A: Yes, loneliness and low mood have risen across most developed nations even as digital "connection" has increased, suggesting the two aren't the same thing. Q: What is the "sixth extinction"? A: A term used by scientists to describe the current rate of species loss, which rivals the five previous mass extinctions in Earth's history, this one driven by human activity. Q: What's one small thing a person can actually do ? A: Act small and local; a clean-up, checking on a neighbour, supporting an existing conservation effort, rather than trying to solve the whole problem alone, which tends to lead to paralysis instead of action. This is what i'm doing. Q: Is the Inside Out Smile podcast on a break? A: Yes. I'm is taking a short break after this episode and will be back with new episodes in mid-to-late September. With peace and love always, Amber xoxo

Why Watching an Old TV Show Made Me Think About Time (353)

In today's episode, I chat about one of my fave TV shows. What happens when you rewatch a show you've loved since you were younger and suddenly feel it differently? In this episode, I talk about revisiting thirtysomething , a show I fell in love with at the pilot and have watched through dental school, and ever since. Seeing the actors age in real time cracked open something bigger: today, a reflection on how short life actually is, how our bodies age no matter what we do, and what it means to live with real presence instead of denial so we can experience true joy. Here's the video I mentioned,it's the perspective of a mulim undertaker : https://youtu.be/RH75dA1-DJc?is=X1GKoq3UrHZ9-XcP If you enjoy this episode please rate, review and/or share! Thank you! Why Is Everyone So Difficult Lately? The Real Reason People Have Changed (352)

Have you noticed people seem harder to deal with lately? Shorter tempers, less patience, less awareness of anyone else in the room? You're not imagining it and it's not that people are becoming worse. In this episode, I break down why human interaction feels so much harder right now, using two real moments from my own week: 2 strangers who walked straight through my personal space on a busy common when the rest of it was empty, and a friend's story about rising tension at work. I unpack what i believe are the real reasons behind this shift, cognitive overload, the loss of everyday in-person social practice, stress narrowing our attention, and a social contract that's become far less explicit than it used to be. Then I offer a reframe: what looks like difficulty in other people is often depletion, not character. And I share two practical shifts, one for how you interpret other people's behaviour, and one for checking your own capacity, that change how these everyday frictions land. If you've been wondering why people feel more difficult, ruder, or more self-absorbed lately, this episode gives you the psychology behind it and a way to navigate it that doesn't leave you resentful or drained. My Neighbour, The Spider Catcher And The One That Got Away Twice (351)

This week on Inside Out Smile, it's a lighter, sillier episode from me! A real-life tale of an eight-legged "intruder" that took up residence in the bathroom, a valiant neighbour armed with a spider catcher, and one particularly clever spider that just would not stay caught. Along the way: a whole spider family moving in, a professor friend confirming a spider-bite mystery, foxes wreaking havoc on the garden paving, and a stray magnet providing an unplanned sound effect. Just a reminder that good neighbours make the small stuff easier, that it's okay to hit your limit and ask for help, and that even the tiniest creatures deserve a bit of grace. Raw, unscripted, and very much as-is, as always! In this episode: The spider that escaped not once, but twice Calling in backup: why asking for help isn't a failure An unexpected spider family reunion in the kitchen Dad's mystery spider bites, solved Foxes, collapsed paving, and a bird bath on hold With peace and love always, Amber xoxo

The Girl With the Lovely Boots: A Random Act of Kindness on the London Tube, 349

Sometimes the most heartwarming moments happen in the most ordinary places, like on the tube, on an unremarkable Saturday. In today's episode, I share something that happened today. I was on the tube, admiring a young woman's boots, when a couple got on, one of them clearly with additional needs. Without a moment's hesitation, this young stranger gave up her seat. No fuss, no performance. Just instinct. I couldn't let it go unnoticed. Despite my hesitation, I said something. What followed was a genuinely lovely conversation about her, about her mum being a doctor, and about something we both clearly care about: the NHS, and the importance of standing up for the things we love. It ended in an unexpected hug. This episode is a reflection on small, unprompted kindness, meaningful conversations with strangers, and why it matters to speak up, both for people who do good, and for the things we believe are worth protecting. In this episode: A small act of kindness witnessed on the London Underground Why I almost didn't say anything and why I'm glad I did The conversation that followed, and how it turned to the NHS Why we should speak up for the things and people we love A reflection on noticing kindness in others. With peace and love always, Amber xoxo

How to Stay Hopeful When the World Feels Like It's Falling Apart 348

I've noticed something lately. Some people I come across are angry, short, rude for no obvious reason. Others are genuinely lovely, even when life clearly isn't easy for them either. It got me thinking about the state of things more broadly, and feeling hopeful whilst the world is becoming less and less stable. In today's episode, I think out loud about what it actually means to stay hopeful right now, not in a way that feels fake, but genuinely. I share where I land on seeing clearly rather than looking away, where my own hope is actually rooted, and what it means to keep building and showing up anyway, even when things feel uncertain. In this episode, I chat about : Why some people seem angry and others lovely My own perspective on where lasting hope comes from What it means to keep building and creating anyway, even imperfectly I can't control the world, i can only control me! Peace and love always, Amber xoxo

Is AI Making Us Less Intelligent? Your Mind Is Sacred And the Attention Goblins Know It (347)

In today's episode, I chat about what the latest neuroscience is telling us about artificial intelligence and our cognitive health, what it means for children, and most importantly, why your mind is sacred and what's at stake when we give our attention away without thinking. Why this topic? Well, there is a study that I haven't been able to stop thinking about. Essentially, two groups; one writing with AI, one writing without. The group using AI showed significantly reduced brain activity. They couldn't recall their own work minutes later. They felt no ownership of it. And when the tool was removed, the low brain activity persisted. The brain had already shifted into a lower gear. As someone who cares deeply about what happens on the inside and yes, as someone who uses AI, I couldn't ignore that. Because your capacity to think, to feel, to connect, to create, that is not a feature to be automated. It is the very thing that makes you alive. And the attention goblins know exactly what you're worth, even when if you've forgotten. In this episode: The study that found AI use significantly reduces brain activity The link between cognitive disengagement and dementia risk Why experts are more concerned about AI than social media for developing brains The critical difference between AI as a thinking partner vs a thinking replacement Three evidence-based habits to protect your brain right now Why your mind is sacred and why that makes it a target The one question to carry with you every day: is this good for my brain or bad for it? If you enjoyed this episode, please rate and/or review and/or share on your chosen platform. It would mean the world to me! Thank you. Peace and love always, Amber xoxo

Walking Into a Room Full of Strangers: What TikTok HQ Taught Me About Human Connection (346)

What do you do when you walk into a room and you know almost nobody? This week I visited TikTok HQ in London for an AI and content creation event and walked in knowing exactly one person. In today's episode of Inside Out Smile, I reflect on what happened next, and what it revealed about the nature of human connection, courage, and showing up before you feel ready. Because connection isn't a lottery. It isn't something that happens to you. It's something you participate in creating, and it starts long before you walk through the door. It starts on the inside. Every series of Britain's Got Talent reminds us that extraordinary people hide in the most unexpected places. The same is true of every room you walk into. You never know who is standing next to you holding a coffee, what they've overcome, what they're building, what they carry. That thought alone changed how I moved around that room. Whether you're someone who finds networking uncomfortable, who watches communities from the edges without quite stepping in, or who talks yourself out of events because you don't know enough people, this episode is for you. In this episode: The quiet courage it takes to walk into an unfamiliar room Why the most connected people in any room are rarely the most impressive What genuine curiosity does that performance never can How inner security creates outer connection Why you never know who you're going to meet, and why that should excite you With peace and love always, Amber xoxo

The Gratitude Reminder: Body, Mind and Soul. A Personal Wake-Up Call (345)

When someone close to you receives an unexpected diagnosis, it stops you. Not dramatically. Just quietly. And in that stillness, a question surfaces: how much is happening inside any of us that we simply can't see? In today's episode of Inside Out Smile, I explore the deeper connection between body, mind, and soul, and what it means to truly pay attention. Because none of us know what is happening in our bodies until something manifests. None of us know what another person is carrying emotionally or mentally. And that invisible inner world shapes everything, our health, our choices, our relationships, our energy. This episode is a gentle but powerful reminder to be kind to others, to be kind to yourself, and to be mindful of what you consume, because everything you let in becomes part of your inner environment. If you've ever pushed through when you should have paused, or judged someone without knowing what they were carrying, this one is for you. In this episode: Why the body communicates long before symptoms appear How our emotional and mental world is reflected in our physical health — and vice versa Why real kindness starts with how you treat yourself What it means to consume mindfully — beyond just food A quiet invitation to pay attention before something has to shout With peace and love always, Amber xoxo
