Hillsboro School District Weekly Hot News August 31, 2026 - Welcome to the 2026-27 School Year

Another school year is upon us and we are so excited to get started! Here are some important reminders and resources. Please remember that HSD schools are safe and welcoming places for all students, staff, family and community members. If your family has questions about student supports, available community resources, or other topics, please visit the Safe and Welcoming Schools page of our website, reach out to your school-based Family Outreach Liaison, or contact the district office. We can connect you with trusted partners to provide guidance, language support, and other resources to help your family feel safe, informed, and supported. Visit the back-to-school page of our website to access electronic versions of back-to-school packets, supply lists, and more. For the academic calendar, please visit hsd.k12.or.us/calendar . Busing information is available on the “MyBus” app. Please note that as students continue to register for school, route times may be adjusted. Please check the app frequently through the first week of school for the most current information. The first day of school for students in grades 1-6, 7 and 9 is Tuesday, September 1. Students in grades K, 8, and 10-12 will join them on Wednesday, September 2. Keep in mind that on Wednesdays, all schools follow an “academic seminar” schedule. This schedule shortens the regular school day by 30 minutes so that staff have time to collaborate, analyze data, learn, and plan. For students in elementary school, this means their school day ends 30 minutes earlier than normal; for students in middle and high school, this means their school day begins 30 minutes later than normal. La autorización para hacerlo fue aprobada por unanimidad por la Mesa Directiva en su sesión ordinaria del martes, 26 de mayo.El bono propuesto incluye proyectos para cada escuela y edificio del distrito, tales como la reparación o el reemplazo de techos, sistemas de climatización, iluminación y áreas de juego; el fortalecimiento de la seguridad y protección; y la modernización de espacios educativos para fomentar la participación de los estudiantes y prepararlos para el futuro. Hillsboro School District Weekly Hot News August 24, 2026 - Proposed HSD November 2026 Bond

As we shared with you back in the spring, HSD is placing a $430 million capital bond on the November 2026 ballot . Approval to do so was granted unanimously by the School Board at their regular session meeting on Tuesday, May 26. The proposed bond program contains projects for every school and district building, such as replacing or repairing roofs, HVAC systems, lighting, and playgrounds; increasing safety and security; and modernizing educational settings that engage and prepare students. It was recommended by the Bond Development and Bond Steering Committees after careful review of feedback and polling data gathered throughout January and February 2026. Capital bonds like this one are the only mechanism school districts in Oregon have for making significant investments in systems and structures. Thanks to a planned drop in the repayment schedule for our 2017 bond and significant growth in our community, we estimate that, if passed, the new bond levy rate would be lower than the average rate paid by property owners since 2018. If the bond passes, HSD would also secure a state matching grant of more than $6 million. If the bond does not pass, the proposed projects could not be completed. Hillsboro School District Weekly Hot News June 8, 2026 - Last Days of School

The end of the 2025-26 school year is here, which means it’s time for learning a few final lessons, field days, yearbook signing, and looking ahead to summer vacation. After-school childcare and activities may be limited this week - please check with your child’s school for specifics - and the last day for students is Thursday, June 11. This will be an early release day , meaning students will get out of school three hours earlier than normal . Lunch will still be available at all sites prior to release. There are a variety of camps and activities available for students this summer, including the City of Hillsboro’s Outpost free lunch and activity program at Shute Park and Shadywood Park. The Outpost runs Mondays through Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., June 22 through August 13. Children ages 1 through 18 can receive a free meal and enjoy giant bubbles, water Wednesdays, field games, arts & crafts, and more! Free meals will also be available at Orenco Woods Nature Park, Reedville Creek Skate Park, Walnut Street Park, and McKinney Park from June 22 through August 13, Mondays through Thursdays. Rural site meal pick-up is available once per week at North Plains, Atfalati Ridge, Groner, and Farmington View Elementary Schools. Want to keep up or enhance those reading skills? Hillsboro School District Weekly Hot News June 1, 2026 - Celebrating the Class of 2026

Commencement week is here! This is a time where we both reflect on the past and look forward to the future as we celebrate all of our students’ hard work and many accomplishments over their PreK-12 career, and anticipate the various pathways they will embark upon after leaving our system. For the dates, times, and locations of our graduation ceremonies, please visit hsd.k12.or.us/graduation . We ask that everyone attending the graduation events arrive on time; be prepared to follow all staff instructions, physical barriers, and informational and directional signage; and depart promptly afterward. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we work to ensure the events are as fun and safe as possible for all involved. If you are unable to attend the graduation ceremonies in person, you are invited to watch them online! Hillsboro School District Weekly Hot News May 25, 2026 - Oregon’s June 2026 Economic and Revenue Forecast

Oregon’s Office of Economic Analysis released the State’s June 2026 Economic and Revenue Forecast on Wednesday, May 20. The news is mixed, with challenges remaining from slowing wage growth, softening labor conditions, and more persistent inflation pressures amid geopolitical uncertainty and elevated energy prices. Contributors to State revenue growth were strong financial markets, capital gains collections, and a partial disconnect from the federal tax code in response to the federal tax cuts included in HR 1. State School Fund allocations come from combined General Fund and Lottery dollars, so those revenue streams are the ones we watch most closely. Since the March 2026 Forecast, General Fund resources are up $345 million and Lottery resources are up $35.2 million, for a combined increase of $380.2 million. These revenue streams are up $30.8 million since the Close of Session Forecast - the first time they’ve been in the positive this biennium. Things to watch moving forward are the impact of legislatively approved increases to spending outside of education - there was a $198 million increase in the 2026 short session - any potential challenges to the federal tax code disconnect bills, and legislative appetite for utilizing reserve funds for K-12 education in the 2027-29 biennium. The Hillsboro Schools Foundation conducted its highly anticipated “Surprise Patrol” the week of May 18 through 22, where winners of Engagement Grants for the following school year are announced. In all, fifteen proposals received funding - twelve from HSF directly, and three from anonymous donors. Projects range from bringing art literacy curriculum to McKinney Elementary School; to adding barbering and cosmetology stations to the career learning lab at R.A. Brown Middle School; to providing the tools for students to use reading, writing, and creativity to craft their own board games at Century High School; and many more! While the projects may differ, what they have in common is their ability to engage students in their learning and provide experiences that would not be possible under normal school funding.
