Meet Nicole Antebi, an accomplished animator and moving image maker whose creative journey has been influenced by her experiences along the US-Mexico border. Nicole grew up on the northwest bank of the Rio Grande/Río Bravo in the border region of El Paso/Juárez, and her artistic identity is rooted in the intersection of cultures and movement for both people and rivers. Nicole is an Assistant Professor of Illustration and Animation at The University of Arizona, as well as her extensive teaching experience at institutions like CUNY Queens College, SUNY Albany, and Universidad de las Américas, Puebla. Her dedication to her art shines through her work, (and my favorite piece!) particularly in the animated essay titled "100 Partially Obscured Views/100 Vistas Parcialmente Oscurecidas," funded by the Jerome Foundation. The film uses archive postcards to explore the origins of colonial treaties, policies, and personal history, providing a unique viewpoint on El Paso, Juárez, and New Mexico. It was a pleasure to have this chat with her, and learn more about her work, experiences and influences. Don't miss the chance to connect with Nicole and learn more about her journey.
