Humility 1

We start a new series of quotes today. This series is on Humility. It is a great follow-up to last month's series on Pride, as the two are a great balance to one another. As I said last month, pride can be a good thing if not taken too far. When we go too far with it, though, it becomes arrogance, and arrogance is ugly on everyone. Humility on the other hand is always welcome and appreciated by anyone who encounters someone else displaying it. And it is an absolutely essential quality for leaders to possess. You will hear 5 quotes in today's episode. As always, I am so grateful to all of you who support the podcast! I do this show because of you. While I enjoy the quotes myself, I do this podcast because many of you who are looking for inspiration and impact from these quotes come back and listen to it on a consistent basis. Thanks to all of you for being a huge part of this journey! In order to help me keep this journey going, please consider becoming a supporter of the show. Stirring the Soul (and 20% Off!)

Today is a departure from my usual kind of episodes. I have only one quote for you. It is from John Muir. Muir was an American naturalist, author, environmental philosopher, botanist, zoologist, glaciologist, and early advocate for the preservation of wilderness in the United States.I chose his quote because I am on vacation in Glacier National Park in northwestern Montana, and this quote speaks to how I feel in places like this. As I type this, I am sitting by the huge fireplace in the lobby of my favorite lodge in my favorite place in the world. The temperature dropped into the 40s and 50s last night and today, and it is supposed to be in the upper 30s overnight, so a fire in the fireplace is perfect. I'm kind of in heaven!Anyway, I recorded the episode this (Sunday) morning at another spot in this lobby, so I didn't want to spend too much time on it, as there were other people around where I was recording, and we had a tour of another portion of the park we were heading out to. (The tour was awesome, by the way.) So, you will hear only one quote. However, in the second half of the episode, I talk about a special discount I am giving to any schools, businesses, or organizations who book me to speak to their people in August or September. I have never offered a discounted price on my speaking gigs, and I don't know if I will again in the future. But I do know that this is a great deal and an incredible way for you to get me out to speak to your organization and help them develop to become the best they are capable of becoming. Pride 3

With July being "Pride" month, I thought I would do a series on the concept of Pride. No, I'm not talking about the pride associated with LGBTQ+ issues. While I have no problem with that kind of pride and the importance of LGBTQ+ people's rights, I don't want to get into those issues on a podcast about Great Quotes for Coaches.Today, we end this series on the concept of pride that I have struggled with my entire life - the dichotomy between the positive kind of pride in one's accomplishments and the negative kind of pride that goes too far into arrogance, boastfulness, and vanity that has been named one of the 7 Deadly Sins.As always, I am so grateful to all of you who support the podcast! "I Don't Like..."

We've got a bit of a departure for you today. I was ready to start a new series for the new month of July, but I have had a thought running around my head over the last month that I can't shake, and I thought, "I'm going to talk about it on the podcast." I will leave it at that, so you can hear what it is when you listen. As always, I am so grateful to all of you who support the podcast! I do this show because of you. Kindness 1

We continue the month of June with an episode that starts off a short series of quotes on the concept of Kindness. With the month of June being one without a lot of choices in terms of heritages or other concepts that we celebrate, I decided to do some random episodes. The last couple of episodes were devoted to quotes from my gift book for graduates called "Inspiration for the Graduate." The book focuses on 10 team themes, with each chapter focused on quotes about those themes. If you are interested in purchasing the book, go to the Shop page of my website, slamdunksuccess.com, or you can purchase it on Amazon. This week, we move to the concept of Kindness. I will do four (or more) quotes each of the next three weeks on how impactful simply being kind to one another can be for a team (or any other groups or individuals). As always, I am so grateful to all of you who support the podcast! Inspiration for the Graduate 2

We continue the month of June with an episode devoted to quotes from my gift book for graduates called "Inspiration for the Graduate." I wrote it as a gift book for me to give to my graduating senior athletes whom I coached. Pretty soon after I wrote it, though, I had other coaches wanting to give it to their graduates, too, so I turned it into a book to sell. It has been my bestselling book by far.The book focuses on 10 team themes, each one being focused on in its own chapter. The chapters are then filled with quotes about those themes. Today's episode features the final 5 themes in the book - Perseverance, Winning & Losing, Adaptability, Courage, and Leadership. If you are interested in purchasing the book, go to the Shop page of my website, slamdunksuccess.com, or you can purchase it on Amazon. As always, I am so grateful to all of you who support the podcast!
