What If Hard Work Is Not The Fix

Hard work can build a business, a reputation, and a life you are proud of, but it will not automatically make you happier. We get real about the changes that start moving the needle when grinding harder stops working: the small, daily inputs that shape your mood, focus, and identity. If you have ever wondered why you can be “doing well” and still feel off, this conversation connects the dots in a simple, practical way. We dig into where time really goes outside of work, especially doomscrolling and getting hooked by angry political content that you cannot control. That kind of input does not just waste minutes it changes the quality of your day, the tone of your conversations, and the energy you bring to your goals. From there we talk about the underrated fundamentals that high performers sometimes neglect: sleep quality, hydration, and eating habits that keep you fuelled, clear, and emotionally steady. The through-line is consistent and blunt: inputs influence outputs. We also get into protecting your energy by being intentional with people and attention. If certain relationships or conversations leave you feeling negative every time, you can set boundaries without turning it into drama. To make it actionable, we lay out “positive daily minimums” like a short journal session, three litres of water, a bit of learning time, and movement, plus a seven-day input swap challenge to replace one negative habit with something that actually builds you up. If this hits home, subscribe, share it with a friend who needs a reset, and leave a review so more people can find the podcast. What is the first input you are swapping this week?

You Cannot Say You Are All In Without Paying The Price

Commitment sounds simple until it asks you to give something up. We get real about what “all in” actually means, and why so many people confuse effort with commitment. If you’ve ever said you’re chasing a big goal, a dream career, or a higher level in sport, this conversation is a gut check on whether your choices match your words. We share the story of moving from Ottawa to Calgary with $5,000, stepping into a demanding gym internship, and realizing fast that quitting could not be on the table. That decision forced uncomfortable trade-offs: cutting spending, living cheap, eating basic, and doing whatever it took to stay close to the opportunity. Not because suffering is noble, but because results have a price, and someone has to pay it. From there, we break down the difference between “showing up” and separating yourself. For athletes, especially in MMA, it’s easy to claim you’ll do anything while still spending money on the wrong things or looking for shortcuts. The edge comes from discipline outside the gym: ownership, consistent decisions, and targeted investment like strength and conditioning when it actually matters. The biggest theme is personal responsibility. We push back on “it’s not my fault” and “I don’t have time” and replace them with better questions: How can I make time? What can I do today? What’s one step forward, even if it’s small? If you want a life without limits, this mindset shift is the foundation. Subscribe for more, share this with someone making excuses, and leave a review with the commitment you’re choosing next.

You Get Ahead By Showing Up Daily

Waiting for the perfect plan is one of the cleanest ways to stay stuck. We’re answering a question I’ve been asked a lot after 10 years coaching fighters and athletes across dozens of countries: what has actually made me successful in my field, and what can you steal from it for your own goals? I start with a raw story from my early days working at a Calgary gym: a 200-hour internship, the scramble to find clients, and a culture where you were “on” basically all the time. While other coaches complained or quit, I kept showing up, covering sessions, learning on the fly, and stacking reps. That simple habit, showing up even when it’s not fun, built the skills and relationships that later created real opportunities. From there we get into entrepreneurship and personal branding without the fantasy. I quit a job that had me working insane hours for low pay, then started my business with no website, no business plan, and no clue what I was doing. The only strategy I trusted was action: post on social media every day, publish the podcast every week, and stop overthinking the gear, the lighting, the “right time,” or whether I was big enough to ask good guests. We also talk about consistency the right way: not going too hard for four days and disappearing. The key is setting the floor, the minimum you can hit even on your worst day, then building toward the ceiling when you’ve got the energy. If you’re chasing growth in training, business, or content creation, this will help you build momentum that actually lasts. How To Stop Living A Life That Looks Right

That nagging sense that something’s off can be brutal because you can’t always “prove” it. You might be doing the right things on paper, keeping everyone happy, and still feel stuck in life. I’ve been there, and I’m sharing the exact story that forced me to stop performing the identity of having it all figured out and start getting honest about what I actually wanted. I take you back to my early 20s, when I was engaged, on a clean career path, and quietly miserable. When the relationship cracked, it exposed more than heartbreak. It exposed how easy it is to stay in the wrong situation because it’s comfortable, because you don’t want to be judged, or because you’re terrified of admitting you don’t know what comes next. We talk about self-worth, boundaries, and why “trying harder” doesn’t fix a mismatch in values or direction. From there, we widen the lens to the rest of life: friends who no longer fit, goals that used to be yours but aren’t anymore, and the athlete mindset trap of mistaking misery for commitment. The core message is simple: the feeling you keep ignoring is information. When you listen to it and make the hard call, you give yourself a real shot at a life that fits, whether that means a new relationship standard, a move, a career change, or a fresh definition of success. If someone you care about feels stuck, share this with them. Subscribe, leave a review, and send me your biggest takeaway. What’s the one feeling you know you need to listen to next?

Time Is The Real Currency

Time isn’t just money, it’s your life. We get real about the trap so many of us fall into: doing every small task ourselves to save a few bucks, then wondering why we feel stretched thin, stuck, and constantly behind. I share the turning point that changed how I run my business and coach athletes, starting with a blunt lesson from a business coach: if you want a bigger impact, you can’t do it alone. We talk through what “buying back your time” actually looks like, from hiring your first assistant to building a team across operations, coaching, and media. I explain how delegation protects your zone of genius, improves the quality of your work, and creates the freedom you thought you were building in the first place. If you’re an entrepreneur, creator, or coach, this is a practical mindset shift around productivity, leadership, and sustainable growth, not hustle for hustle’s sake. Then we bring it straight to athletes. Writing your own strength and conditioning programs, obsessing over weight cutting, and carrying all the planning in your head can drain mental energy that should go to training, recovery, and skill. We dig into smart steps like using a proven training program, adding a solid weight cutting app, and even learning sponsorships so support can pay for itself. If this helped you, subscribe, share it with a teammate or friend, and leave a review so more people can find it. What’s one task you’re ready to stop doing so you can get your time back?

Quitting Alcohol Starts With Telling The Truth

Waking up in a Calgary parking lot covered in blood is the kind of moment you joke about at work, until the joke stops landing. I share one of the darkest, most embarrassing points of my life and why it became the first crack in a pattern of weekend drinking, anxiety, and pretending I was fine. If you’ve ever lived for Friday night, chased the “life of the party” label, or used alcohol to drop your guard for a few hours, you’ll recognize the real problem underneath the drinking: I didn’t like where my life was headed, and I didn’t want to face it. I walk through what actually changed, including why that rock-bottom moment wasn’t an instant fix, and how COVID forced me to sit with my choices long enough to see the truth. I talk about building a business, shifting identity, and the hard lesson that “one or two” can be a trap when your relationship with alcohol has an on switch and no off switch. Sobriety isn’t framed as punishment here. It’s a decision to protect the life I’m trying to create, especially for athletes, entrepreneurs, and anyone chasing high-level goals. We also get into the part people don’t warn you about: friendships and peer pressure. When you stop drinking, some people support you without question and others try to pull you back down, sometimes with jokes, sometimes with guilt. I share how I learned to be okay being the weird one, how to spot who’s really in your corner, and why purpose makes “no” feel lighter. If you’re ready for a mindset shift on quitting drinking, alcohol recovery, self-sabotage, and building a purpose-driven life, hit play. What If People Pleasing Is Costing You Everything

A breakup can feel like a verdict on your worth, but sometimes it is the clearest mirror you will ever get. We tell the story of a relationship that ends with one line that stings: “I’m having a really good time, I just don’t feel the security with you that I feel like I need to.” Instead of turning it into blame, we follow what happens when you treat rejection as feedback and start asking the uncomfortable question: what am I doing that I don’t even notice? We dig into how people pleasing hides behind “being considerate,” and how that can quietly undermine attraction, trust, and leadership. It shows up in tiny decisions like insisting someone else pick the music, sacrificing sleep even when you know you have to perform tomorrow, or handing off hard calls to a team member when you are the one responsible. The theme is simple and hard: if you can’t lead yourself, you will struggle to lead in business, in athletics, and in relationships. We also talk about building a purpose-driven life, why purpose comes before comfort, and how hypnotherapy helps uncover the deeper beliefs that keep you seeking approval. If you want practical personal development, breakup recovery that actually changes your habits, and leadership lessons you can apply to entrepreneurship and decision-making, this one will hit. Subscribe, share it with someone who needs it, and leave a review. What’s one “small compromise” you’re ready to stop making?

Are Your Priorities Just Comfortable Excuses

“I’m just not prioritizing it right now.” That one line sounds harmless, but it can be the most expensive excuse in an athlete’s training plan. We dig into what that language really means when fighters and martial artists keep skipping strength and conditioning, conditioning work, or recovery while convincing themselves they are still working hard. We tell a real fight camp story: a jiu-jitsu athlete doubles down on more rolling because it feels productive, even though he already knows grappling is his advantage and his opponent is bigger and stronger. From there, we zoom out into a bigger point about performance psychology and discipline. If you keep investing time in what you like most and avoid what exposes your weaknesses, you may be training a lot while still moving away from your goal. We also talk about the sneaky version of this problem: when “hard work” becomes your comfort zone. More sessions can feel like discipline, but without recovery and balance it often leads to injury, stalled progress, and worse results over time. You’ll leave with a simple decision filter for your training priorities, plus the key questions to ask when you are tempted to skip the session you know you need. Stop Chasing Tips

Work with me and my team 1 on 1; https://coachdusseault-fight.com/application Join our Skool Community; https://www.skool.com/coach-dusseault-fight-club-4191 Description: Advice is cheap, endless, and weirdly addictive. We have all felt that pull to ask one more question, watch one more clip, or hunt for the perfect hack before we start. Today we challenge that habit head-on, using real stories from coaching athletes and building a business to show how “seeking tips” can turn into a comfortable form of procrastination. We dig into the classic overthinking trap with strength and conditioning and boxing conditioning: obsessing over tiny variables like 10 seconds versus 12 seconds, while ignoring the bigger levers that actually move performance. We talk about what those bigger levers look like in real life: a properly structured training programme, nutrition, sleep, mindset, skill development, and the willingness to do the unglamorous work consistently. The point is not that details never matter, it is that details only matter after you have built the base and put in the reps. Then we get practical about how to ask for advice in a way that leads to real answers. Instead of “any tips?”, we explain how to bring context: your goal, what you are doing right now, what you have tried, what is not working, and the exact problem you need solved. We also make the case for paying for implementation when you need a plan, and for taking action when budget is tight, because information without execution is just noise. If you know someone stuck in research mode, share this with them. Subscribe, leave a review, and tell us the one action you are implementing this week.

Why Hard Work Fails Without Belief

Work with me and my team 1 on 1; https://coachdusseault-fight.com/application Join our Skool Community; https://www.skool.com/coach-dusseault-fight-club-4191 Episode Description: We hit record again with a new banner and a bigger promise: Life Without Limitation. The name change is not a rebrand for the sake of novelty. It’s a line in the sand after 18 months of learning, building, and confronting the same problem we see in athletes and high achievers everywhere: working insanely hard while quietly doubting we deserve the result. We unpack how limiting beliefs hide inside “smart” behaviours like chasing a new trick, overcomplicating training, or staying busy without moving the deal forward. If you’re in combat sports, strength and conditioning, or any high-performance path, you’ve seen it: someone says they want a UFC-level outcome, then lets “life is busy” become the deciding factor. We talk about direction and intention, why consistency beats motivation, and why your brain will always try to pull you back toward comfort when the next step actually matters. I also share the turning point that set this whole journey in motion: leaving a gym job in 2019 that looked perfect on paper but felt miserable in real life, and waking up to the terrifying truth that nobody was coming to save me. That willingness to take ownership, keep showing up, and make uncomfortable decisions led to coaching athletes around the world, working with UFC fight camps, and building a studio at home. The same principle applies to your training, your career, and your wealth: you only find out by trying, and you grow by doing it anyway. If you want a practical mindset shift for performance, business, and life, press play. Subscribe to the show, share it with a teammate, and leave a review telling us what limitation you’re ready to challenge next.
