The Fox is Back - EP 146

Send us Fan Mail This week on Riffs & Rhythms, Paul Robertson and Kevin McLoughlin welcome Fox Maple back to the show for one of the funniest—and most thought-provoking—episodes yet. Fox opens up about spending nearly four years creating the record, why some songs have been waiting more than a decade to be released, how life experiences shaped the album's darker tone, and why sometimes you simply have to stop chasing perfection and let the music go.  Along the way, the conversation dives into:🎵 The making of Last of the Lost 💿 Why vinyl records are making a comeback—and why colored vinyl sells better 🎙️ Recording, producing, and knowing when an album is "finished" 🎸 Playing over 600 live shows and growing as an artist 📻 Landing on Spotify's Release Radar and receiving international airplay 🎪 Local music festivals and supporting original music 😂 And, as always... plenty of hilarious Riffs & Rhythms tangents. Also in this episodes "Riff or Rhythm?", we put Fox up to review her better half. We review the song "Snake Drive Motherf@!cker" by FRANK BANG & THE SECRET STASH https://youtu.be/jZmIr9xhYkA?si=mfQkI3IlDdgIpFKKCheck out Last of the Lost https://foxmaplemusic.com/If you're a musician, songwriter, music fan, or just enjoy authentic conversations with great people, this is an episode you won't want to miss.👉 Follow, subscribe, and support independent Florida music.🎸🥁 Riffs n Rhythms - https://www.riffsnrhythms.com🎸 Kevin McLoughlin – https://www.kevinmcloughlinband.com🥁 Paul Robertson – @drumsandrums @rumfluencer👻 The Ghost on the Aux -  https://ghostontheaux.com🎸 Powered by the B3 Podcast Network🔥 SUBSCRIBE to our Patreon for extra riffs, rhythms, and absolute nonsense.   /riffsnrhythmspodcast👉 LISTEN on Apple, Spotify, Pandora, YouTube & more.📩 Want to join the madness or be our bartender? What Happens When Passions Collide? Distiller, Author, Musician - Shawn Martin

Send us Fan MailDrums and Rums is back — from Key West!Paul takes the show on the road for a special conversation from Papa’s Pilar Rum Distillery in Key West with distiller, rum enthusiast, musician and newly published author Shawn Martin, who writes under the name Shawn Michael Dean.Shawn's path to making rum wasn't exactly planned. With a background in marine biology, he came to Key West working as a scuba instructor and boat captain before what was supposed to be a temporary job at a new distillery turned into nearly a decade of making and experimenting with rum.In this episode, Paul and Shawn dig into how the rum industry has evolved, why rum is often misunderstood, and why the spirit deserves the same appreciation given to bourbon, Scotch and whiskey.Shawn also takes us inside the creative side of distilling — experimenting with fermentation, different distillation techniques, barrel finishes and small-batch Distillery Reserve releases. And since we're recording at the distillery, we don't just talk about them…we taste a few along the way.The conversation goes well beyond rum, too.We explore the history of the building and its connections to old Key West and Ernest Hemingway, the creation of the Hemingway Social Club, Key West's music scene, tiki culture, and Shawn's newest creative adventure: becoming an author. After nearly 10 years of writing on and off, Shawn recently released his first novel, Coral Bay, under the name Shawn Michael Dean — and he's already thinking about what comes next. It's rum, science, history, music, writing, Key West and a few good laughs along the way.In other words, exactly what Drums and Rums is supposed to be:Where the Backbeats Meet the Spirits.
