B3 stands for brands, bands and booze and ties into the concept of like content on this channel. You have the Riffs n Rhythms podcast every Tuesdays, the foundation of this audio channel, Drums and Rums every Wednesdays, and our recent addition the 5 year morning show at night, Jams 'n' Cocktails every Thursdays. We look to expand the channel with shows that are tied to one of the these industries, music, liquor and bar/restaurant/venue service industry.

Don’t Let Breakdowns Stop You from Seeing Live Music - EP 158

Send us Fan Mail Why go see a band when you can listen to the same music anytime on your phone? That's the question at the center of this crossover episode of Riffs & Rhythms with Ghost on the Aux and Moth. Before we get there, though, there's a story. The guys were headed to the 3B Fest when their van started shaking, something failed underneath it and fluid went everywhere—leaving them stranded just minutes from the festival. What followed involved a tow truck, roadside podcasting, Magic: The Gathering and making the best out of a trip that definitely didn't go according to plan. Ironically, all of that happened because they were trying to do one simple thing: See live music. That launches a conversation about what makes a live performance fundamentally different from recorded music. Is it the sound? The crowd? The anticipation? The physical energy in the room? Or is it the entire journey—the tickets, travel, waiting in line, meeting people and finally hearing that first note? Kevin shares what happened when he traveled to Madison Square Garden to see Rush and unexpectedly found himself overwhelmed with emotion. Paul recalls concerts that have stayed with him for decades, while Ghost and Moth explain why being present in the moment matters more than experiencing everything through a phone screen. The conversation also gets into studio production vs. live performance, analog vs. digital, album-listening rituals, younger generations discovering concerts and whether something intangible gets lost when music moves from a physical experience to a digital one. Recorded music and live music both have their place. But if you've never stood in a room when a band kicks into that song you love, surrounded by hundreds or thousands of people feeling exactly what you're feeling… You owe it to yourself to experience it. This week on Riffs & Rhythms , Paul and Kevin are joined by Moth to talk about the return of Kevin’s Guitar Slinger Shootout and the old-school tradition of “head-cutting” sessions — when musicians went head-to-head and let their playing determine who came out on top. Kevin explains where the idea came from, how the competition works and why the upcoming battle with Apostoli Floyd is more than two bands playing another gig. Each guitarist gets a chance to perform with their own band before the two go toe-to-toe, with the audience ultimately deciding the winner. Along the way, we get into guitar technique, protecting your hands as a musician, the legendary Crossroads guitar battle, supporting original music and what makes a live event something people want to experience again. Then the conversation takes a turn into social media, AI and what happens when musicians spend years building an audience on a platform they don’t actually own. Kevin shares the story of losing his Facebook presence and thousands of followers — and why he's now thinking differently about the relationship between artists, algorithms and their fans.
