People Watching with Kara Ryan

Kara Ryan, a communication strategist and Founder of Klyr Strategies, joined me to talk about the importance of clear and simple communication and why simplifying complex concepts can help a leader connect with an audience. Ryan shared that one of the most common communication mistakes company leaders make is failing to involve communications teams early in major strategic decisions; which results in messaging that sounds inauthentic. We also discussed how she's using AI to create an advisory board to help guide her new business. and how AI is creating new opportunities for independent work. Reaching your potential with Jason Griggs

In this episode, I discussed the life lessons endurance sports teach about discipline, resilience, leadership, and success with Jason Griggs, GEP of Global Software Sales at GEP Worldwide. Jason shared how running marathons and competing in Ironman triathlons after a divorce at age 40 transformed his life and strengthened his 30-year sales career. We talked about the importance of knowing your "why," embracing discomfort, and learning to love the process rather than just chasing outcomes. Our conversation also covered leadership, motivation, parenting, and the value of discipline and hard work learned through experience. Enjoy! The Price of Value with Patrick McCullough

Patrick McCullough - Partner at ⁨@holdenadvisors⁩ , joined me for to talk about pricing, value, and profitability in B2B businesses. We explored why pricing is one of the most important — and most overlooked — fundamentals in business. Patrick broke down how companies create value by helping customers increase revenue, reduce costs, or mitigate risk, and why pricing should evolve continuously as markets change. We also discussed margins across industries, the challenges of selling through procurement teams, the importance of strong customer relationships, and how AI is changing the sales landscape. One of the biggest takeaways: businesses should review and refine pricing regularly — not just when problems arise. Bearing witness to grief with Randy Aguero

Thank you to Randy Aguero for sharing his deeply personal journey through grief and mental health struggles after losing his oldest son Dima to fentanyl poisoning in March 2021. Randy shared how he delayed taking mental health leave from his corporate position for over three years, even being offered early departure by his company's health department, until he was finally diagnosed with high-functioning depression at near-crisis level in 2024. The conversation explored Randy's military background, his current MBSR teacher certification training, and his mission to help other young men express vulnerability and process grief, particularly drawing from his experience mentoring others through similar struggles. Randy emphasized the importance of authentic connection and "bearing witness" to others' suffering rather than well-intentioned but ineffective offers to "just call if you need anything." The full interview will drop on May 5th.

There's no cheat code...You have to go do 'the thing' with Kendra Cato

In this episode, I sit down with Kendra Cato for a real, unscripted conversation about leadership, resilience, and what it actually looks like to grow through uncertainty. Kendra shares her journey—from joining a pandemic-era book club that turned into something much bigger, to co-authoring Together We Rise alongside 14 other female executives. What started as connection during a chaotic time evolved into a powerful platform for shared voices and leadership stories. We also get into her more personal chapter—writing Rising with Courage while navigating a career transition after being laid off. That part of the conversation hits differently. It's about identity, uncertainty, and choosing to move forward when the path isn't clear. Kendra opens up about loss—the passing of her father and a close friend—and how those experiences reshaped how she leads, how she shows up, and what actually matters. There's a level of perspective here that you can't fake. We talk about: Why the people you surround yourself with matter more than you think What authenticity really looks like in professional environments Taking risks when you don't have all the answers How to stay grounded when life throws something unexpected your way This one isn't theory—it's lived experience. If you've ever been in a moment where things felt uncertain or out of your control, there's something in here for you

Consistency, Transparency & Context with Kip Wright

In this episode, I sat down with Kip Wright for a real conversation about what's actually happening inside staffing companies right now—and what leaders should be doing about it. Kip is the Founder o& CEO f Wright Path Advisors, where he works closely with staffing owners navigating everything from day-to-day leadership challenges to major transitions like private equity deals. We covered a lot in this one… What we talked about: How Kip built WightPath Advisors to support smaller and mid-sized staffing firms through the full ownership lifecycle The reality of today's staffing market—and why sales teams are struggling more than most leaders want to admit Why automated outreach and volume-based tactics are falling flat (and what to do instead) The shift back to relationship-driven sales—and what that actually looks like in practice Kip's approach to leadership, discipline, and accountability Why tracking the right metrics (and making them visible) changes behavior fast The role of recognition—and how most companies completely miss the mark here One thing that stood out to me: Kip doesn't overcomplicate it. His philosophy is simple—be disciplined, measure what matters, and make it visible. Sounds basic… but very few teams actually do it. We also went a little deeper toward the end—talking about the need for better, more constructive conversations across different perspectives. Not just in business, but in general. That's a conversation I'm looking forward to continuing with him. 🎧 Watch or Listen to Cut Through the Noise here: YouTube: www.youtube.com/@cutthroughthenoisewithdave5192 Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/cut-through-the-noise-with-dave-turano/id1466812912?i=1000760035320 If you're in staffing—or leading any kind of sales team—this one will hit close to home.

Uncovering the Real Person with Vinda Souza

In this episode, I sat down with Vinda to talk about her journey from growing up in Saudi Arabia to moving to the U.S. at 15, and how finding debate helped her navigate that transition and ultimately shaped her career in communication and persuasion. We also got into how her background in performing sharpened her ability to read people (including spotting genuine vs. fake smiles), and how that carries into her work today with RevAssured—helping staffing agencies go beyond resumes to understand the real person behind the candidate. It's a conversation about authenticity, human connection, and why recruiting needs to move from transactional to relational.
