Episode 44: Risky Business - Inside the Lines of Risk, with Nick Munson

‘Everyone’s job is risk management’Broadgate had the privilege of hosting seasoned Audit and Risk expert, Nick Munson, on the latest episode of the Risky Business podcast. Tune in to hear Nick’s unique insights on the fast-changing regulatory space, the critical role of risk assessment committees, strategic alignment across every line of risk, and more. Nick Munson is a senior Audit and Risk professional with extensive experience covering financial services.  In his most recent role, Mr. Munson was an Executive Vice President at New York Community Bank, where he spent approximately six years in the C-suite as the Chief Audit Executive (2018-2019) before being appointed Chief Risk Officer (2019-2024).  During his tenure at the organization, Mr. Munson continuously enhanced the Internal Audit and Risk Management practices, as the bank nearly tripled in size, as measured by total assets.  In addition to his Chief Risk Officer responsibilities, Mr. Munson was also the firm's Regulatory Liaison, with primary responsibility for developing and maintaining all relationships with the firm's regulators.  Prior to being recruited to NYCB, Mr. Munson was a Managing Director, Executive Audit Manager and Transformation Leader at GE Capital, where he had global responsibility for transforming the global Internal Audit function to meet the heightened regulatory standards for a $500B+ non-bank SIFI.  Prior to joining GE Capital, Mr. Munson spent ~15 years at Goldman Sachs within Internal Audit, where he had numerous leadership roles, including Global Head of the Audit Practices Group, Co-Head of the Tokyo Internal Audit Department, Head of the Chicago Internal Audit Department and Head of the Capital Markets Internal Audit team in Asia.  Mr. Munson also spent more than five years in public accounting, including two years at KPMG in New York.Mr. Munson holds a B.B.A. in Accounting from Hofstra University and is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Internal Auditor.  He also has previously attained various FINRA registrations (Series 4, 7, and 63) and completed the Project Management Professional program.
